"The bigger the beard the bigger the thief"
« on: November 22, 2010, 02:13:10 PM »
Chaim's 1st law: "A person will become uglier in proportion to his leftism".

Chaim's 2nd Law: "De greissser de bord, de greisser de ganav - the bigger the beard, the bigger the thief".

Whilst I have some sympathy for these fellows
http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3988315,00.html
in as much that I'd rather have the State's money go to them, rather than to the bloated chilloni Tel Aviv Cameri Theatre, the valueless Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra or to buy guns to arm the PLO in Ramallah, they do seem to typify Chaim's 2nd law!

Notice the non-Jewish court guards!

Needless to say, the ones most irked by their ID fraud are those Haredi mosdos who kept strictly honest records!

I don't know what this has to do with the beard? Aren't most of the criminals in Israel beardless?

You shall make yourself the Festival of Sukkoth for seven days, when you gather in [the produce] from your threshing floor and your vat.And you shall rejoice in your Festival-you, and your son, and your daughter, and your manservant, and your maidservant, and the Levite, and the stranger, and the orphan, and the widow, who are within your cities
Duet 16:13-14

How would anyone know whether the guards are Jewish or not?

You asked their mothers?

The kid on the left doesn't have a big beard at all.

The Yiddish expression means that Orthodox Jews, who are in the main the most honest people on earth, are severely let down when some of their number do a kuk!

A great Chillul Hashem is caused when Orthodox Jews, particularly in the US, UK and Israel, even rebbes and rabbis, are found money laundering drug money, property swindles, charity diddles, ID fraud, false claiming of benefits, deliberate bounced cheques, voting fraud, diamond-dealing tricks,  postal fraud, not paying workers and suppliers, VAT & tax reclaimance fraud etc etc.

Thanks to computers and stricter sentencing policies, things have tightened up recently, and if these guys are found guilty, they'll serve 5 years at the "Bet Keleh Mar Prison for White Collar Criminals" near Yokneam, which will act as a mighty deterrent to their chevreh.

The Gemara says that the very first question a soul is asked in Olam Haba is "Were you honest in money matters?", and that there is great consternation among the Angels if the answer is in the negative!

Certainly I agree with you that it is terrible when an Orthodox Jew is involved with dishonesty. It is a chillul Hashem when a supposedly religious Jew is caught stealing or cheating.

But I don't think that we should be concerned with 'the length of the beard' or other things. What they did was shameful and detrimental to the entire Jewish people. Jews of all kinds are capable of very much potential, potential for goodness, kindness, truth, and mercy and potential for bad, wickedness, and evil.

Good points.

Although Haredim are generally paradigms of kindness to children, there are exceptions http://www.jpost.com/Israel/Article.aspx?id=196435
