Suspect in NAU sexual assault arrested[/b]

The sexual assault last month in Flagstaff was brutal and, authorities say, unusual. It took place in the early hours of a Friday morning on the Northern Arizona campus and the victim and suspect did not know each other.

But because investigators were quickly able to identify the suspect, the matter was shared with the on-campus student community but not widely disseminated through the email and text alerts that have become common for universities to use when students are threatened.

Instead, authorities quickly determined where 22-year-old Tyrone Wilson was and then waited.

Wilson had fled to the Navajo Nation, to an area near Blue Gap, about 30 miles from Canyon de Chelly. Early Thursday morning, members of the U.S. Marshals Service attached to a violent fugitive task force, armed with an extradition warrant signed by the Navajo president, arrested Wilson on suspicion of sex assault, attempted sex assault, kidnapping and aggravated assault for his role in the 3 a.m. rape of an 18-year-old NAU student on Nov. 19.

The Marshals Service relied on help from a host of state and local agencies, including police from NAU and Flagstaff, Coconino County sheriff's deputies and the Navajo Nation Police Department, said David Gonzales, U.S. Marshal in Arizona.

Considering Wilson's history, he likely would have committed more violent crimes if he had not been arrested, Gonzales said.

"Based on his behavior and actions at the scene and his past history, finding Wilson was a priority for law enforcement in Northern Arizona," Gonzales said.

Wilson was wanted on a warrant issued in Flagstaff in May 2009 on charges of domestic violence and marijuana possession, according to court records.

He was known to frequently alternate between staying in the Flagstaff area and the nearby Navajo Nation. Once investigators determined Wilson was a suspect in the November on-campus assault, the focus shifted off campus.

So while flyers telling students about the assault and asking for additional information were spread throughout campus, there was not a sense that a sexual predator was stalking students, said university spokesman Tom Bauer.

"I think there's always anxiety in the case of any sexual assault," he said. "Law enforcement . . . they knew pretty much the area where this suspect was. They knew that this particular individual did not pose a risk to campus."

Rape on campus tends to be underreported, authorities say, and most victims know their assailant.

It's kind of depressing how Tyrone used to be a proper English name used by your average British person and now it's a name(along with Jamal) many people associate with black criminals.
The city isn't what it used to be. It all happened so fast. Everything went to crap. It's like... everyone's sense of morals just disappeared. Bad economy made things worse. Jobs started drying up, then the stores had to shut down. Then a black man was elected president. He was supposed to change things. He didn't. More and more people turned to crime and violence... The town becomes gripped with fear. Dark times, dark times... I am the hero this town needs. I am... The Coon!!!
