Van Halen was hot in the 80s... Never seen them though...

You shall make yourself the Festival of Sukkoth for seven days, when you gather in [the produce] from your threshing floor and your vat.And you shall rejoice in your Festival-you, and your son, and your daughter, and your manservant, and your maidservant, and the Levite, and the stranger, and the orphan, and the widow, who are within your cities

I saw Sammy Hagar for the first time six months ago.  I won't say he is a great musician but you get your money's worth at his show.  Also he is in his sixties, meaning he has been abusing his body for at least four (probably five) decades and he still has tremendous energy.  Hard to believe, then again who thought Keith Richards would still be alive by now and getting hurt climbing trees.
We all need to pray for Barack Obama, may the Lord provide him a safe move back to Chicago in January 2,013.

I most certainly knew that... I 1st heard Van Halen in 1983 and vividly remember when the video for Jump from the 1984 album was on MTV all the time...

Here's Sammy Hagar at his best, showing his unassuming beach boy side and his rock star who connects with his audience side.  This performance was impressive because it was not his crowd, this was a country concert mainly.

Roth is a cartoonish character, but he was entertaining nonetheless.   Personally, I think Hagar was boring and generic.

By the way, This video epitomized Roth's obsession with his own ass.

I always thought that Eddie Van Halen always wanted Hagar to be boring and generic thereby shining the spotlight on himself. Eddie did play a mean guitar though...

Pantera
Alice Cooper
Jethro Tull {actually was classified as metal in the 80s}
Yngwie Malmsteen

I was really into Maiden in the 1980's..  I loved their songs, they were really unique, and the lyrics were not the typical crap from that genre.

Aces High was a great song about the battle of Britain.  Run to the hills was about the Europeans conquesting America.  The Number of the Beast was about Dantes Inferno.  I'll admit that a lot of the material was kinda dark, but it was still quite good.

Speaking of Steve Vai, he was certainly one of the best guitarists of that era.
