US rabbis pen letter criticizing Beck's Holocaust usage
By JORDANA HORN
01/27/2011 18:03

In a letter to news-tycoon Rupert Murdoch, rabbis demand apologies for insults, Holocaust references, and attacks on George Soros.

NEW YORK – In a full-page open letter in Thursday’s Wall Street Journal  and The Forward for Holocaust Remembrance Day, four hundred American rabbis of all denominations called on News Corporation Chairman Rupert Murdoch to sanction Glenn Beck and demand an apology from Roger Ailes for Ailes and Beck’s repeated misuse of Holocaust terminology.

The letter, organized by Jewish Funds for Justice and signed by the heads of the Reform, Conservative and Reconstructionist movements as well as prominent Orthodox rabbis, accuses Beck and Fox News Network head Roger Ailes of desecrating the memory of the Holocaust. The letter was prompted in part by Beck’s three-day series on billionaire George Soros in which Beck claimed that Soros survived the Holocaust by collaborating with Nazis.

In the series, Beck said Soros “used to go around with this anti-Semite and deliver papers to the Jews and confiscate their property and then ship them off.  And George Soros was part of it.  He would help confiscate the stuff.  It was frightening.  Here’s a Jewish boy helping send Jews to the death camps.”

Beck has made “literally hundreds of on-air references to the Holocaust and Nazis when characterizing people with whom [Beck] disagree.”  Beck regularly compares American leaders to Nazis, has likened his battle against progressives to that of “Israeli Nazi Hunters,” and has said that putting the “common good” first leads to “death camps.”

The letter states, “In the charged political climate in the current civic debate, much is tolerated, and much is ignored or dismissed. But you diminish the memory and meaning of the Holocaust when you use it to discredit any individual or organization you disagree with. That is what Fox News has done in recent weeks, and it is not only ‘left-wing rabbis’ who think so.”

Fox News chief Roger Ailes dismissed criticism of Beck, characterizing critics in an online interview with The Daily Beast as nothing more than “left-wing rabbis who basically don’t think that anybody can ever use the word ‘Holocaust’ on the air.”

Rabbi Felicia Sol of Congregation B’nai Jeshurun in New York, a board member of the Jewish Funds for Justice, noted that the rabbis who signed Thursday’s letter cannot all be characterized as progressive or “left-wing.”

“To divide the world into left wing and right wing, particularly with respect to the Holocaust as concerns  rabbis who dedicate their entire lives to the continuity of the Jewish people – well, it’s an absurd critique,” Sol said in an interview with the Post. “This letter honors the diversity of our outrage.”

Abe Foxman, the National Director of the Anti-Defamation League and a child survivor of the Holocaust, described Beck's attack on George Soros in particular as "not only offensive, but horrific, over-the-top, and out-of-line.”

Yet Foxman, when reached in an interview, said he found the open letter to Murdoch a “bizarre” use of the United Nations Holocaust Remembrance Day.

“[Jewish Funds for Justice has] a right to voice their grievances,” Foxman said. “What I find bizarre, though, is to take the UN Holocaust Remembrance Day and the names of the victims to take a public stand against Murdoch, Ailes and Beck. They’re not our enemy, and they are certainly not Holocaust deniers.”

Foxman added, “If you want to take on the issue – and the issue is a serious issue – take out an ad, which I would be glad to sign, which takes on both Democrats and Republicans for trivializing the Holocaust. But why zero in on these people and make them our enemies, which they’re not?”

“Why make Murdoch, Ailes and Beck the villains of Holocaust denial or trivialization, and mobilize the American rabbinate on this day? It’s bizarre,” Foxman said. “And to use this day in the name of Holocaust survivors to defend Soros is also bizarre.”

The rabbis letter concludes with, “It is because this issue has a profound impact on each of us, our families and our communities that we are calling on Fox News to meet the standard it has set for itself: ‘to exercise the ultimate sensitivity when referencing the Holocaust.’  We respectfully request that Glenn Beck be sanctioned by Fox News for his completely unacceptable attacks on a survivor of the Holocaust and Roger Ailes apologize for his dismissive remarks about rabbis' sensitivity to how the Holocaust is used on the air.”

Soros is not Jewish... He ranks amongst the most anti-Jewish people alive today.... It angers me that anyone who considers themselves Jewish, especially one who misuses the title of Rabbi, would ever support this waste of human flesh named Soros. I was exposing soros for the Jew-hating thug he really is long before he supported Obama. I am not a nazi... I am a religious Jew who curses heretics and antisemites...

I call on righteous Jews and gentiles to condemn these so-called rabbis.... They are either evil or completely naive...

Barack Obama's Rabbi(s)
By Brett Lieberman

Will a rabbi’s blessing help Barack Obama? What about 300 rabbis? And will the IRS find this arrangement kosher?

“Rather than sit and yell at my television, I thought there was an opportunity to do something,” said Rabbi Steven Bob of Congregation Etz Chaim in Lombard, Ill, in the western suburbs of Chicago.

Rabbis for Obama, a grassroots group of 368 rabbis as of Thursday, Sept. 11, from Reform, Conservative, Orthodox and Reconstructionist synagogues across the country who hope that by lending their support to the Democratic nominee they can persuade other Jews to back him too, is the brainchild of Bob and Rabbi Sam Gordon of Sukkat Shalom in Wilmette, Ill.

The push, which they say is independent of their synagogues [“I’m not using any of the platforms provided me by the synagogue, neither the bulletin or the bima. This is me doing this personally,” Bob said], is believed to be the largest organized effort by Jewish leaders to support one candidate or presidential ticket. Rabbis have taken out newspaper ads and spoken for or against candidates, but Jewish historians cannot recall a comparable effort.

Their synagogues are not endorsing a candidate, which could lead to the IRS revoking their non-profit status. In announcing their support, Rabbis for Obama announced only the rabbis’ names and hometowns – without their synagogues - to avoid the implication that the synagogues are backing Obama.

What clergy can or can’t say to the congregations about the candidates or issues was a topic raised during a panel discussion at the Democratic National Convention in Denver last month. Several experts on the law said that clergy can discuss issues and the campaigns from the pulpit, but warned they need to be careful not to indicate their support for a particular candidate.

Prominent rabbis in the group include Rabbi Elliot Dorf of Los Angeles, Rabbi Jack Moline of Alexandria, Va, who spoke at the Democratic National Convention, Rabbi Burton Visotzky of New York, Rabbi Janet Marder of Palo Alto, Calif., and Rabbi Ellen Weinberg Dreyfus of Homewood, Ill.

The rabbis felt moved to take an active role in the presidential campaign because of what they saw as a unique opportunity to influence the outcome of an election in which Jewish voters are receiving more attention than they can recall in any recent election.

Believing that Obama and Republican John McCain are equally “pro-Israel,” it was domestic issues such as abortion, separation of church and state that were “gigantic issues” that factored into their decision to publicly support Obama, according to Bob.

“If the question is Israel, I think it’s evidently clear that the differences on the two are very, very small,” Bob said.

The fact that'  Rabbi' Ellen Weinberg Dreyfus is a woman ( there's no such thing as a woman Rabbi under Jewish law ) speaks volumes about her lack of credibility.

The fact that'  Rabbi' Ellen Weinberg Dreyfus is a woman ( there's no such thing as a woman Rabbi under Jewish law ) speaks volumes about her lack of credibility.
TRUE ,i also bet most of those so called 'rabbis' are on the list rabbis for obama hussein obama

At the very least,   its safe to assume that these so called ' rabbis'  supported Barrack Hussein Obama in 2008 and the vast majority,  if not all plan on doing so again in 2012.

I found another on both             Rabbi Felicia L. Sol, New York, :::D

from the jpost article                Rabbi Felicia Sol of Congregation B’nai Jeshurun in New York, a board member of the Jewish Funds for Justice, noted that the rabbis who signed Thursday’s letter cannot all be characterized as progressive or “left-wing.”

With individuals like ' Rabbi' Felicia L. Sol,    the enemies of the Jewish people can sit back.   Without even lifting a pen or raise their voices in their quest to cause damage to Israel and the Jewish people, in general.

Good gosh I know some of these "rabbis"!

"Rabbi Donald Goor, Tarzana, CA"

A few years back when I first had the desire to start going to Shul I innocently went to a Reform synagogue, Temple Judea, before trying other Shuls.  Many of the people there are warm people and I knew nothing about Judaism really so I had a good enough time and struck up a friendship with the lay run Torah study leader and his students, and I am still friends with a few of them [these people are ardent supporters of Israel, and why they go to a Reform shul is beyond me; the leader loves Orthodox Jews, spends time with them, and has Orthodox views!].  This dark evil "anti-rabbi" Donald Goor fellow was on some sort of sabbatical in Israel at the time so he was not there.  When he returned I was amazed at what a self-hating antisemitic Israel threatening lashon hara committing kike bastard he was [and he is a homosexual "married" to another man who is a so called "cantor" elsewhere!].  He is the head "rabbi" at Temple Judea. -- In an odd way I would like to extend Herr Goor my gratitude for being so grievously offensive that he made me curious about Orthodox Judaism while highlighting what an antisemtitc bund society the Deform movement is.

"Rabbi Karen Bender, Tarzana, CA"

Also Temple Judea.  Lesbian "rabbi" ["divorced" from another lesbian!].  Told me a story about she being concerned about Muslims being targeted like Jews were during the Holocaust after 9/11 [as if Jews ever murdered 3,000+ people in cold blood in the name of Judaism!] and then reaching out for interfaith dialogue with a local Muslim leader -- She withdrew from their multiple dialogues after realizing finally that the Muslim was an unrepentant antisemite [bozo!]!

[both of these "rabbis" are signed supporters of J-street on the J-street website]

"Rabbi Dan Moskovitz, Tarzana, CA"

Also Temple Judea.  Aside from this, "Rabbi" Dan has not done anything offensive I have noticed.  I did not see him on the J-street website.  In actuality he gave a really good sermon on terrorism in Israel and what it is like for Israelis during Hamas rocket attacks, including a bit on its so frequent that some just don't even care anymore because they are sick of hiding in their saferooms at 4am waking up from sleep and are have been made apathetic towards living because of the constant threat and why Hamas needs to be exterminated for this.

I have never met him personally, but I know who this guy is...

"Rabbi Michael Lerner, San Francisco, CA"

Not even a Deform/Deconstructionalist "rabbi"!!!  He claims to have gotten "secret ordination" by three Orthodox rabbis including a Chabadnik, based upon his superior knowledge of Talmud. -- Most likely a seriously ill escape mental patient who is not even slightly Jewish! He has staged fake "Zionist" break-ins of his home.  -- And he chickened out from a scheduled public debate with our beloved Rabbi Kahane!  Ha!

This must be just the tip of the iceberg.  :::D :::D :::D

The Orthodox movement really should pursue legal control over who actually calls themselves a rabbi. -- There is no such thing as Kosher pork.

At first I thought the supposed outrage is about Beck using analogies to the holocaust, but apparently the complain is that Beck tells the truth which is that Soros isa  Jewish Jew-hater and unrepentant collaborator with the Nazis.

Here is a video with the interview of Soros claiming the "Happiest time of my life" was during the Nazi occupation.... Tell me this is not a self-hating leftist?

Ann Coutie talks about Soros on FOX:

Excellent discussion of Soros involvement with Nazi collaboration:

Soros claims the Bush administration was like Hitler and the Nazis:

We may not agree with everything Glenn Beck says, but he does support Israel.   I just don't have much respect for George Soros who has collapsed the Pound in Great Britain and other currencies, and is the founder of the Socialist movement.  What has he ever done for Israel?
