Archive users have noticed a new look at the JTF.org archives.

Let me first state that

all the shows are still there
any link you had elsewhere to a particular show mp3 still works
the archive will continue to be automatically updated

What's changed is that the site now has a different layout. This was done for several reasons.

First, Search Engine Optimization: Previously, the site really only had two pages – he main page and the FAQ. The problem with this is that a search engine would look at this site and say “it’s small”. Even though there are hundreds of shows and gigabytes of material, it still looks “small” to a search engine because there’s only two pages. By splitting each day off to a separate page, we now have hundreds of pages and look like a much larger site. This boosts our search engine ratings. Although the archive is not as important as the main JTF site, anything that increases the likelihood of a JTF-referring page showing up in someone's search is a good thing.

Second, Ease of Administration: There are literally hundreds of WordPress plugins that can now be used. Many are invisible to the end-user but they help in keeping the site running. The old site required me to login and edit the HTML files directly. This is not always possible as I'm often behind a corporate firewall. Now I can administer the site from anywhere over the web for the most part.

Finally, Better Ad Placement: The ads are there to provide revenue for the site. Previously they were jammed awkwardly into the pages, but using this theme, I can make them appear in more logical places so the overall flow of the page isn’t disrupted.

Really, the main motivation was the first bullet point: to have more pages on the site so it would look better to a search engine.

How do we download previous JTF audios? I used to right click on the link and it would down load. I tried doing it this time, but didn't work properly.

Just click on the date and you'll be taken to a page with all the shows for that date. From there you can download MP3 (or RealAudio for older shows) by right-click, save.

These days there's only one show (Ask JTF) but in some previous years there would be 2 per day and 2 formats.

Actually, I don't think so. It's hosted at Dreamhost in Los Angeles. JTF.org is hosted by some company based out of Softlayer's Dallas data center, though I don't know the actual provider.

That's just the registrar.

A traceroute ends in Dallas at Softlayer. Softlayer has a huge datacenter there with many providers. I don't know who actually hosts JTF.org...and there's no need for them to report it.

Nice design though could use some more organization to distinguish between the Ask JTF programs and the QPTV shows.

Yeah...the "c" shows are always Ask JTF.

The QPTV shows changed names over the years, so I'd have to go listen to them all to figure out which are named what...

When I download the shows I use the following formula:

JTF_YEAR_MONTH_DAY.mp3

For instance last weeks show was called 'JTF_11_06_05.mp3'

Yes, that's fine for now, but in the QPTV days there are two different shows :-)

In the QPTV days, there were "a", "b", and "c" shows. The "a" show was Chaim alone and the "b" show was Chaim and a guest (e.g., Josef ben Meir). The "c" shows are always Ask JTF, but the "a" and "b" shows had different names over the years.
