Wars have consequences and one of the many consequences of the defeat and partitioning of the Turkish Empire (aka-Islamic Caliphate / Ottoman Empire) was establishment of the territory of Jewish Palestine.

These are the currently recognized borders of Israel

By end of World War I, the four major imperial powers Germany, Russia, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire had been militarily and politically defeated.  Subsequently, the Ottoman (Islamic Caliphate) and Austria-Hungarian Empires were divided up (partitioned) and ceased to exist.

On 30 October 1918 the Ottoman Empire surrendered at the Armistice of Moudros.  They surrendered their remaining garrisons outside Anatolia, granted the Allies the right to occupy forts controlling the Dardanelles Straits and the Bosporus; and the right to occupy their territory. Additionally, the Ottoman army was demobilized, ports, railways, and other strategic points were made available for use by the Allies. In the Caucasus, Turkey was forced to retreat to within its pre-war borders.

The terms of peace were set at the Paris Peace Conference which established the League of Nations, authorized and tasked it to oversee the "well-being and development" of "those colonies and territories which as a consequence of the late war have ceased to be under the sovereignty of the States which formerly governed them."

Unlike the United Nations, the League of Nations was legally empowered to issue binding legislation, establish international boundaries and issue mandates for governance.

Subsequently, Allied forces occupied Constantinople and the territories of the Islamic Caliphate (Ottoman Empire) were partitioned; this created the modern Arab world including the present day Republic of Turkey. The League of Nations granted France mandates over Syria and Lebanon and granted the United Kingdom mandates over Mesopotamia and Palestine.
 

 To appease Muslim clamoring for an Arab Palestine, the British illegally and improperly set aside 80% of the area originally established as the Jewish homeland to form an Arab state (Jordan).  This fact conveniently hidden and ignored by Arabs persistently demanding further concessions. The remaining 20% of Palestine west of the Jordan River was designated Jewish Palestine and remained the Jewish homeland.

There is a reasonable argument that the United Kingdom had no authority to cede any of the territories under its control to separate sovereignty and Israel has a valid claim to all of the land in the British Mandate not just Jewish Palestine.  Authority for any such border modifications resided with the League of Nations and not the United Kingdom alone.

UN Resolution 242 is a Farce:  The conflict today is not based on any treaty rather on a non-binding opinion of the United Nations known as "UN Resolution 242".  This resolution is an advisory opinion only and carries absolutely no legal authority, as the UN has no legal authority to define the borders of Israel having never been given such power implicitly or explicitly.

The only way that UN Resolution 242 could become law is if the government of Israel signed the agreement and ratified it as a recognized treaty.  Of course, Israel never signed UN Resolution 242 nor any other agreement ceding any of its territory to anyone.

The United Nations is an advisory body its resolutions have no binding effect or legal authority, unless all of the affected parties sign the proposed treaties establishing those opinions as law.  This is a very important point because it reveals that the Arab invented UN advocated claims of disputed territory within Israel (Gaza, West Bank) have absolutely no legal standing.

Israel's boundaries were established by the League of Nations under authorization of the 1918 Paris Peace Conference as directed by the victors of World War I and except for the illegal actions of the United Kingdom which reduced Israel to it's current boundaries, nothing has changed.

The United Nations is nothing but a debate club, their opinions are nothing more than opinions and they are frequently wrong.  Attributing any credibility to the United Nation's allegations that any part of Palestine does not belong to Israel is a gross error.  All of the areas the UN calls disputed territories were illegally possessed by Israel's neighbors and repatriated in Israel's defensive Six-Day War.

Any attempt to negate the Jewish people’s right to Palestine-Eretz-Israel, and to deny them access and control in the area designated for the Jewish people by the League of Nations is a serious infringement of international law.

League of Nations:  The Mandate for Palestine, July 24, 1922

The mandates for Mesopotamia, Syria and Palestine were assigned by the Supreme Court of the League of Nations at its San Remo meeting in April 1920. Negotiations between Great Britain and the United States with regard to the Palestine mandate were successfully concluded in May 1922, and approved by the Council of the League of Nations in July 1922.

The mandates for Palestine and Syria came into force simultaneously on September 29, 1922. In this document, the League of Nations recognized the "historical connection of the Jewish people with Palestine" and the "grounds for reconstituting their national home in that country."

Whereas the Principal Allied Powers have agreed, for the purpose of giving effect to the provisions of Article 22 of the Covenant of the League of Nations, to entrust to a Mandatory selected by the said Powers the administration of the territory of Palestine, which formerly belonged to the Turkish Empire, within such boundaries as may be fixed by them; and

Whereas the Principal Allied Powers have also agreed that the Mandatory should be responsible for putting into effect the declaration originally made on November 2nd, 1917, by the Government of His Britannic Majesty, and adopted by the said Powers, in favour of the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, it being clearly understood that nothing should be done which might prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine, or the rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country.

The only actual debate about Israel's borders should be whether or not to return the current territory referred to as Jordan to Israel in order to correct the injustice done my the British government in violation of the Paris Peace Treaty and League of Nations Authority...
