Frog thought to be extincted, rediscovered in Israel
« on: November 19, 2011, 12:05:46 PM »
The Hula painted frog is unique to the Hula valley of Israel, last sighted in 1957 and was believed to be extinct. It was rediscovered in the Hula reserve this week.

I hope they can save the species. I'm glad it's still there! Diversity in nature is one place where diversity is a strength.   ;D

A shame the arabs didn't go extinct
The banding together by the nations of the world against Israel is the guarantee that their time of destruction is near and the final redemption of the Jew at hand.

Actually the Israelis have to be careful if this species does not have a natural predator.  Expect the plague frogs otherwise.

The Hula valley is temporary resident for tens of millions of aquatic feeding birds. Also this Frog is not particularly clever, they eat each other too. The story goes that the Israelis rescued 4 specimen, two adults and two tadpoles, before they drained the Hula lake and marsh. But they kept them in the same aquarium and the eat each other so soon there was left only one specimen which was believed to be the last one on earth.

Wish Arabs did the same to each other.

Good thing an Arab didn't catch this rare frog.  They would rip the legs off it, for enjoyment.

It is better to have the frogs than to have the arabs.

That is what I thought when I read the headlines.... Dead frog comes back to life...

You shall make yourself the Festival of Sukkoth for seven days, when you gather in [the produce] from your threshing floor and your vat.And you shall rejoice in your Festival-you, and your son, and your daughter, and your manservant, and your maidservant, and the Levite, and the stranger, and the orphan, and the widow, who are within your cities
Duet 16:13-14

Long hibernation could have been the key factor for survival.

Now if only we could convince another certain slimy cold blooded animal to hibernate for the next four years...

http://library.thinkquest.org/TQ0312800/frog.htm

"Some frogs hibernate under water.  These don't breathe and get their oxygen from the water through their skin."

"They live on body fat that they stored in their bodies during the fall.  Some toads have hibernated for as long as three years."

Under the threat of extinction, frogs can also hibernate longer for the cause of survival, so with the will of Almighty it will be observed that the Hula painted frogs have hibernated for as long as four years in Israel.

OMG, the Almighty has made even bigger arrangements for their survival:

18- One type of desert frog can wait as long as seven years for water by surrounding itself in a type of transparent bag that becomes its first meal once the rain comes.

I think I've seen those on tv before in documentaries, they showed them coming up out of the mud during the rain.

Yes, I too have seen lot of dried and dead looking frogs unearthed during the digging of the dry bottoms of the ponds. The uneducated diggers used to push them under other heap of earth and say that they will return back to life again once the rain falls. Obviously they were uneducated but not ignorant. They were unable to understand that the hibernation lies between the sleep and the death.

Just because people don't get formal education doesn't mean they don't understand a lot of what's around them. I think that's a neat story.

This brings a new point to the insight of the extinction. It needs to be searched that why arabs have not been extinct so far, I mean what is that mechanism and whether some GM food can break that genetic chain.
