EMP strike
« on: March 11, 2012, 09:24:08 AM »
Rogue nations (such as Iran or North Korea) might create a high-altitude nuclear explosion that will emit EMP (electromagnetic pulse) which will instantly fry and knock out our delicate hi-tech electronic equipment and power grid, plunging us back 300 to 400 years.

William Forstchen has written an eye-opener fiction novel titled "One Second After" depicting the chaos and the anarchy caused by an EMP strike with no electricity, no running standby generator, no clean water, no water treatment, no sewage treatment, no running automobiles, no food supply, plane crashes, no telecommunication, etc.

This is scary warning.

This has got to be a goal of the Muslims.   It could send the entire continent into the dark ages with one well placed nuke in the atmosphere.

I don't think EMP can cause such a catastrophe as they describe. Yes it can fry allot of circuits that aren't protected. But protection is quiet easy- you just need to put sensitive systems inside a Faraday's cage.

Everyone raise their hands who currently has their electronics protected in a faraday cage???

Other than the military, almost no one has done this kind of protection.  That includes all vehicles, and nearly all infrastructure circuitry.

Still I don't think it would bring America back to the stone age.

It will lead to an ultimate big hand to hand frontal fighting with small firearms and other purely mechanical means.
There are thunders and sparks in the skies, because Faraday invented the electricity.

I don't know why a country like America has to be intimidated by this sort of threat from piss ant countries like Iran and North Korea.... It should be made plain that any nuclear attack against America will bring on a counter attack at such a level that it would render life in that part of the world impossible for centuries to come... This might make some of the less inclined to die countries along the "frontera" to set things in order.
