NYT's columnist says Arab Spring made Israeli-Palestinian peace deal 'more urgent than ever.'
Adds: I can certainly see the efficacy of nonviolent resistance by Palestinians to the Israeli occupation
04.04.12

New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman said that the rise of Islamists in Tunisia, Libya, Egypt and Syria has given Israel and the Palestinians "a greater incentive than ever to create an alternative model in the West Bank — a Singapore — to show that they, together, can give birth to a Palestinian state where Arab Muslims and Christians, men and women, can thrive in a secular, but religiously respectful, free-market, democratic context, next to a Jewish state."

In an editorial addressing the stalled Mideast peace process, Friedman wrote that the Arab Spring has made an Israeli-Palestinian peace settlement "more urgent than ever."

According to the editorial, published Tuesday, "it is now clear that Arab autocracies are being replaced with Islamist-populist parties. And, in Egypt, in particular, it is already clear that a key issue in the election will be the peace treaty with Israel. In this context, if Palestinian-Israeli violence erupts in the West Bank, there will be no firewall — the role played by former President Hosni Mubarak — to stop the flames from spreading directly to the Egyptian street."

In the article, Friedman said, "One reason the Arab world has stagnated while Asia has thrived is that the Arabs had no good local models to follow — the way Taiwan followed Japan or Hong Kong. Fostering such a model — that would stand in daily contrast to struggling Islamist models in Gaza and elsewhere — would be a huge, long-term asset for Israel and help to shape the world around it."

Addressing Marwan Barghouti's recent call for a popular uprising against Israel, Friedman, who said the jailed Fatah leader recommended that such a revolt be non-violent, wrote "I can certainly see the efficacy of nonviolent resistance by Palestinians to the Israeli occupation of the West Bank — on one condition: They accompany any boycotts, sit-ins or hunger strikes with a detailed map of the final two-state settlement they are seeking. Just calling for 'an end to occupation' won’t cut it."

According to the Jewish columnist, "Palestinians need to accompany every boycott, hunger strike or rock they throw at Israel with a map delineating how, for peace, they would accept getting back 95% of the West Bank and all Arab neighborhoods of East Jerusalem and would swap the other 5% for land inside pre-1967 Israel. Such an arrangement would allow some 75 % of the Jewish settlers to remain in the West Bank, while still giving Palestinians 100% of the land back."

Friedman added: "By Palestinians engaging in nonviolent civil disobedience in the West Bank with one hand and carrying a map of a reasonable two-state settlement in the other, they will be adopting the only strategy that will end the Israeli occupation: Making Israelis feel morally insecure but strategically secure. The Iron Law of the peace process is that whoever makes the Israeli silent majority feel morally insecure about occupation but strategically secure in Israel wins."

The 92 comments on the Ynetnet site show what a wacko Friedman is.
Friedman says this in the article Barghouti, as Haaretz noted, “is the most authentic leader Fatah has produced

We now have Friedman supporting a genocidal Islamo Nazi terrorist in Barghouti.

The following are some of the more heinous terror attacks for which Marwan Barghouti is responsible:
Jun 12, 2001 - The murder of a Greek Orthodox monk on the road to Ma'ale Adumim.
Jan 17, 2002 - The shooting attack during a bat mitzva celebration at a banquet hall in Hadera. Six Israelis were killed in this attack, 26 were injured.
Jan 22, 2002 - The shooting spree on Jaffa Street in Jerusalem. Two Israelis were killed, 37 wounded.
Feb 25, 2002 - The shooting attack in the Jerusalem residential neighborhood of Neve Ya'acov. One Israeli policewoman was killed, 9 Israelis were wounded.
Feb 27, 2002 - The murder of an Israeli at a coffee factory in the Atarot industrial zone of Jerusalem.
Feb 27, 2002 - The suicide attack perpetrated by Daryan Abu Aysha at the Maccabim checkpoint in which two policeman were injured.
Mar 5, 2002 - The shooting spree at the Tel Aviv Seafood restaurant. Three Israelis were killed, 31 wounded.
Mar 8, 2002 - A suicide terrorist was killed in Daheat el Barid as he was on his way to carry out an attack in Jerusalem.
Mar 27, 2002 - The interception of an ambulance and the confiscation of an explosive belt which was being smuggled from Samaria into Barghouti's terrorist infrastructure in Ramallah.
Marwan Barghouti was also directly responsible for operating the terrorist cell of Raed Karmi in Tulkaram which carried out a series of deadly terrorist attacks.

This is the best response to Friedman's insanity.

Free a mass-murderer for peace?
November 24, 2012

Why is it that when discussing politics, otherwise rational people go insane? No other field of study lures man into the depths of such muddled thinking.
The latest outrage is the renewed campaign to free a mass murderer from prison in the name of peace. Marwan Barghouti is serving five life sentences for masterminding a series of deadly terror attacks against Israeli civilians.

Only in the sick world of Middle Eastern politics does this make him the ideal candidate to foster peace. Ha'aretz asks, “Why did Israel miss the golden opportunity to let Marwan Barghouti out of prison? Barghouti is one of the most forceful proponents of a peaceful solution of the Israel-Palestine conflict ...” Avinoam Bar Yosef recently wrote an article in The New York Times titled “Release Marwan Barghouti.” The reason? “[H]e and Tanzim [the group Bargouti helped found] represent the next generation of secular Palestinian leaders. One of the biggest mistakes of the Israeli establishment and American envoys over the past two years has been their failure to open back channels to Tanzim ...”

Wrong. One of the biggest mistakes of the Israeli establishment and American envoys of the past two decades -- let alone past two years -- has been their empowering of Palestinian autocrats and terrorists. The soft bigotry of low expectations, in other words. In what passes for conventional wisdom, only a man who has targeted civilians could have the credibility to lead the Palestinian people. What does this say about the Palestinian people? It is this thinking which led the West to fund and arm arch-terrorist Yasser Arafat and later his deputy.

Releasing an unrepentant murderer from prison is a human rights concern of the highest regard. Those who yearn for peace must stand firm against any such decision. Naturally, Israelis are at the forefront of the campaign to release the Palestinian murderer. No other people would be so crazy.
Shift the question to any other sphere, and instantly one recognizes how insane this proposition is. Want to solve financial corruption? Release Bernie Madoff and have him take over the Security and Exchange Commission! Why are we missing this “golden opportunity” to end financial corruption once and for all?

Want to solve murder in the U.S.? Release Charles Manson and appoint him chief liaison to the New York Police Department! Only he has the “credibility” to work with law enforcement and end violent deaths.
Concerned about domestic terrorism? Release the Unibomber, Ted Kaczynski, so he can quell terrorism against government agencies, particularly in Oklahoma.

It is too bad the Columbine shooters are not still alive to run for office so they could lead the crack-down on school violence and prevent such tragedies in the future.

Marwan Barghouti should not be let out of prison, for any reason whatsoever. He should spend the rest of his days pacing in his cell thinking about Fani, Maital, Udi and Nissim Dahan who will never see their father, Eli, again. Barghouti engineered the attack on two Tel Aviv restaurants which killed Dahan and several other civilians.

Why should Barghouti enjoy the freedom that he denied Yosef Habi, who was enjoying a night out in Tel Aviv with his wife, Haya? Barghouti’s assassins first shot Haya, and then Yosef ran to her rescue shouting “Don’t shoot!” the terrorists killed him anyway. Now Yosef’s son Itzik and daughter Sima will never hug him again.

Releasing Marwan Barghouti would pervert justice, prevent peace and make a mockery of morality.

Marwan Barghouti has openly said in recent years that he would conduct peace negotiations with Israel (no problem) while also conducting terror attacks against Israel. He sees a dual stream effort - mass murder of Jews and conversations with Jews.
He also wants to flood Israel with millions of violent Arabs to implement the Arafat stages policy.
Barghouti really is the new Arafat. A homicidal manic bent on killing all Jews. Who’s beloved by the leftist media, who lie and distort the truth to promote him as a legitimate leader.

... can give birth to a Palestinian state where Arab Muslims and Christians, men and women, can thrive in a secular, but religiously respectful, free-market, democratic context, next to a Jewish state.

The Christians are mostly murdered and immigrated and the rest of the Muslim population is mostly voting for Hamas or the Salafists. On what planet is this Friedman guy living?

Friedman is an absolute piece of garbage.

Even a dog could predict his worthless lazy and cliche writing.  Repetitive bullcrap over and over again.

The sun came up today?  Peace w fakestinians is more urgent than ever.

The giants won the superbowl?  Peace deal more urgent than ever.

Friedman overcame his constipation?  Peace deal more urgent than ever.

Friedman needs to be medicated.  Judging by his writing, I don't know, maybe he already is.

Does one single intelligent person even care what this nebuch writes? I read on IsraelMatzav how much blather this Friedman punk writes.

I simply ignore journalists and media sites which are whack. My Israeli friend mentioned he likes Anderson Cooper and I made this face which he knew meant I disapproved. Anderson Cooper is a lefty if there ever was a lefty. I have not watched a single report from CNN since about 2000 {about 12 years now}. I have never read a single article from Huffington Post {I refuse to follow any link which leads to that rag}.

Friedman is nothing more than a big fat piece of chametz... Not Kosher for Passover, nor any time of the year..
