Video Study for Parasha Shoftim
« on: August 24, 2012, 01:21:22 PM »
Shalom,

Once again it is Erev Shabbat and I am late posting the weekly Torah videos. I am blessed to be so busy during the week, and look forward each week to the Holy Shabbat.

This week we are reading Parasha Shoftim which contains many of the commandments concerning the various tribes of Kol Yisroel {The entire people of Israel}. We know this includes the Kohen (Priest}, the Levi {teacher}, and the regular tribes {now called Yisraelim}. Each of these has special commandments.

We also learn the command to appoint a king over us, and the laws pertaining to this king {cannot have too many wives, too much money, carry two sefer Torahs, etc.}. The court system is also discussed {which is why the Parasha is called Shoftim, which means Judges}.

Also the command of what to do to the false prophet, the one who leads Jews to idol worship, is contained in this portion.

Here are some incredible videos which teach these concepts:

Here is the animated G-dcast production:

You shall make yourself the Festival of Sukkoth for seven days, when you gather in [the produce] from your threshing floor and your vat.And you shall rejoice in your Festival-you, and your son, and your daughter, and your manservant, and your maidservant, and the Levite, and the stranger, and the orphan, and the widow, who are within your cities
Duet 16:13-14

The wise Rabbi Richman gave this speech last year for this portion:

You shall make yourself the Festival of Sukkoth for seven days, when you gather in [the produce] from your threshing floor and your vat.And you shall rejoice in your Festival-you, and your son, and your daughter, and your manservant, and your maidservant, and the Levite, and the stranger, and the orphan, and the widow, who are within your cities
