Gaza Terrorists Fire Mortar on Southern Israel

Terrorists in Gaza sent a mortar shell crashing into an open area in southern Israel on Monday.

Over the past two months, terrorists in Gaza have been firing sporadically across the border, ending a period of calm that followed November’s Operation of Pillar of Defense.

"A mortar shell struck an uninhabited area in the Eshkol region near the security fence between Israel and the Gaza Strip," an army spokeswoman said according to the AFP news agency.

The incident came 24 hours after Israeli warplanes launched air strikes against the southern Gaza town of Khan Yunis, targeting weapons depots and a training site for the armed wing of Islamic Jihad, the military said.

The strikes, which came in response to a rocket that hit open fields in southern Israel on Saturday, caused no casualties.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Sunday's weekly cabinet meeting that Israel would retaliate with great force against any rocket or missile fire.

"I want to make it clear that we will respond in a very offensive way against any rockets or missiles. We will take all necessary measures to ensure the security of Israelis... on all fronts," he said.

Israel had not carried out air raids on Gaza since early April, when it launched the first strikes in response to rocket attacks launched by Hamas terrorists in the Gaza strip.

On April 19, two rockets fired from the Gaza Strip hit southern Israel without causing any casualties or damage.

Netanyahu had last week vowed Israel would "exact a price" from the Gaza terrorists who fired missiles from Sinai at the southern resort city of Eilat on April 17.

Hoo Yah! If only IDF would obliterate it's enemies, then we would not have these cretins firing missiles at our innocent civilians.

Apparently there is also a story about missiles fired at a Russian civilian jet aircraft today in Syria... But it is clear that it was not an attack from Israel, rather a launch by Syrian rebels...

http://rt.com/news/rockets-russian-plane-syria-575/

Two missiles were reportedly fired at a Russian plane with at least 159 passengers on board that was flying over Syrian territory. Russian officials admit the jet faced danger, but are not talking of a targeted attack.

The news broke in on Monday as Interfax, citing “an informed source in Moscow,” reported that a Russian passenger plane was attacked.

“Syrian [officials] informed us that on Monday morning, unidentified forces launched two ground-to-air missiles which exploded in the air very close to a civilian aircraft belonging to a Russian airline,” the source told the Russian agency.

The pilots reportedly managed to maneuver the plane in time however, “saving the lives of passengers.”

It is believed the aircraft was intentionally targeted, “but it remains unclear whether the attackers knew it was Russian or not,” the source added.

However, Russian officials, though admitting the plane might have been endangered, are not yet talking of a targeted attack.

The Russian Foreign Ministry’s said on its website the plane’s crew at 4.55 PM Moscow time (12.55 GMT) “detected battle action on the ground that, according to the crew, could constitute a threat to the 159 passengers on board the plane.”

The Russian Foreign Ministry is now “taking emergency measures to clarify all the circumstances of this situation, including making contact with the Syrian authorities,” the ministry’s spokesperson Aleksandr Lukashevich said.

Meanwhile, Russia's federal air traffic agency Rosaviatsia has issued a warning to all Russian airlines to avoid routes over conflict zones.
