Saatchi Online Stands Behind Anti-Israel “Art”

Posted by: Aussie Dave in Aussie Dave September 23, 2013   7 Comments 149 Views

A few days ago, I was the first to post Michal Baror’s anti-Israel photo dressed up as “art”, being displayed on Saatchi Online (thanks to a tip from Israellycool friend Ambrosine).http://www.israellycool.com/2013/09/20/art-with-a-capital-f-2/

I hold a map of Palestine from 1947 – just before the invention of Israel – just before the Palestinian disaster. The hand is partly showing the map and partly discussed by it keeping it away from the unseen body. The map is no longer readable – folded like a dirty rag, become a leftover – a used object to be thrown away.       http://www.saatchionline.com/art/Photography-Digital-The-Map/464969/1664562/view

Since then, others like Trending Central have also posted about it.    http://www.trendingcentral.com/saatchi-online-promotes-anti-israel-art/

Meanwhile, Ambrosine has received the following response from Saatchi Online:

    Dear Ambrosine

    Thank you for your email.

I am sorry that you find one of the works on Saatchi Online offensive. This work is by an artist who has recently been shortlisted for some significant prizes for her work. Her views are entirely her own and she is entitled to express them through her artworks. Artists have been making challenging work for centuries and we do not feel that we should censor this work and demand her to remove it from her portfolio.

    With best wishes

    Rebecca Wilson

    Chief Curator, Saatchi Online

As a reminder, this is Saatchi Online’s mission statement:  http://www.saatchionline.com/about

Saatchi Online is a platform that allows emerging artists to showcase and sell their work and gives art lovers insider access to new talent from around the world.

Started by London’s renowned Saatchi Gallery, Saatchi Online aims to continue the gallery’s legacy of promoting new, contemporary talent and bringing great art to a wide audience.

With their dismissive email, Saatchi has indicated it see artistic merit in a photo of a map of Israel folded like a dirty rag to be thrown out, and worthy to be promoted as the work of a talented artist
Thy destroyers and they that make thee waste shall go forth of thee.  Isaiah 49:17
