hm.. I like the russians.. and i know they like us. but i cant figure out my self, if they help us out in kosovo out of their brotherly love or something else..but i think that they do it out of the brotherly love. i know they help us. they helped us in kosovo, not as much as i hoped. but it boosted they serb moral VERY much. and for me, that is good enough.. i have 3 of my uncles who has bin in kosovo. they all live today, thank G-d for that.

The reason Russia didnt help us during the bombing campaign was because

1.the russian president was Boris Yeltsin
2.the serbian president was Slobodan Milosevic

why they are helping us now is because

1.the russian president is Vladimir Putin
2. he wants to have a good ally in the balkans especially serbia since belgrade is a huge link between europe and middle east.
if you want to travel to the middle east you'd have to go through serbia.
3. He is helping Vojislav Seselj because like Putin he is a nationalist.

Actually, you are wrong.

Russia is supporting Serbia on the Kosovo issue because it allows Russia to position itself in opposition to the US and the EU. Russia wants to reassert itself as a hegemon, and you do not do that by agreeing with everyone.

More importantly, Russia itself is composed of many ethnic groups, of which a large number has dreams (delusions) of independence. An independent Kosovo would motivate these independence movements and create a very big problem for Russia.

hp, I think you are right!
It's more than just friendly relations it's political... The Russian have their own Muslim problems in Chechnya, that would send them a messsage as well.

Unfortunately, Russia is run by a bunch of gangsters. I wouldn't like to count on them having 'Mother Russia's' best interests at heart.

These things are good to discuss, because we here at JTF support Serbia, but also look at Russia with much concern, to put it mildly.

Russians have a history of being against Jews, correct?  I am far from an expert, but Russia, even now does seem to be too close to anarchy, what with the organized crime.  I don't know, so I want as much input as possible.

In my opinion, Russia is history. The Holy union between Russia And Serbia hundreds of years ago is broken according to me. Yes, Russian people want to help us, but for the government, there are more importent questions than Serbia. So we are a low priroity. The high priroity is USA ,and as hp said, a risk for a russian breakup.

I thing that the real enemies of the Jews are Muslim fundamentalists and Nazi Catholics. Russia has her own problems and her own enemies. Russia is in a difficult position. They have enemies from all sides.

About the Serbs and the Russians.

It is well known that the Serbs and the Russians are brothers by blood and religion.
We are brothers by blood because we are both of Slavic origin.
We are brothers by religion because we are both true orthodox Christian nations.
We the Serbs have no closer allies than the Russians.

The friends of the Serbs are also Russian’s friends.

Believe me!
Russian orthodox people have nothing against the Jews!
The Jewish apostles of Jesus Christ were one of the founders of our Christian religion. Through the Jews, G-d brought the messiah to this world, with purpose that we the non Jews can also be connected with the G-d of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. This is an Orthodox point of view. Russians and Serbs agree with this.

Russian orthodoxism is not equal with communism.
That are two different directions.

Maybe the Russian communist were bad toward the Jews.
That is a crime! I agree.
But Russian communists were brainwashed aggressors who also victimized their own people.

The communist period was a dark period which destroyed the world’s strongest orthodox countries. Who was benefited with the destruction of the two Orthodox states – the two oldest states with a great tradition and religion.

Excerpt:

"Jedan od prvih i najpoznatijih odreda sacinjen od ruskih dobrovoljaca svakako je odred "Carski vukovi".

"One of the first and best known units made of Russian Volunteers was the unit "Imperial Wolves".

"HUSSARORUM ALIAS RACOW"
"Hussar alias Rac (Serb)"

http://www.myarmoury.com/feature_hussars.html
"Hussar or gussar originally meant "a robber" in Serbian. These horsemen served not only under the Polish and Lithuanian colors but also under those of the Holy Roman Emperor;"
http://www.husaria.jest.pl/rys.html
"Bardzo prawdopodobne, że początek swego istnienia husarze zawdzięczają Serbom. Po klęsce na Kosowym Polu w roku 1389 wszędzie szukali okazji do pomsty na Turkach.
Jan Długosz zapisał pod rokiem 1463, że w bitwie nad Sawą bił się Cohors Raczanorum (oddział Raców - Serbów). Po śmierci króla Macieja Korwina Serbowie udali się do Polski, aby kontynuować walkę z Turkami po usarsku."
http://www.angelfire.com/mi4/polcrt/WingedHussar.html
"The hussar concept began in Serbia, near the end of the 14th century. In the 16th century, painted wings or winged claws began to appear on cavalry shields. Wings were originally attached to the saddle and later to the back. In 1645, Col. Szczodrowski was said to have used ostrich wings.
In 1500, the Polish Treasury books make reference to hussars. Early on, they were foreign mercenaries, and were called Racowie from "Rascia" a word meaning "of Serbia." They came from the Serbian state of Ras."

After Russian Revolution in 1917, every connection with that country can be only BAD.
