I've got nothing to hide. I am doing nothing illegally.
Not so fast.
Ford Exec: 'We Know Everyone Who Breaks The Law' Thanks To Our GPS In Your Car
http://www.businessinsider.com/ford-exec-gps-2014-1We might claim to be law-abiding but each of us breaks 260 rules a year, according to a new study
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2313669/We-claim-law-abiding-breaks-260-rules-year-according-new-study.htmlYou May Think You Have Nothing to Hide … But You Are Still Breaking Laws Which Government Spying Could Discover and Use Against You
http://www.washingtonsblog.com/2013/10/you-break-the-law-every-day-without-even-knowing-it.htmlYour privacy is extremely important. Your political views don't match the government and you are a part of a political activist group. Don't think for one moment that you are safe. How do I know? You know how the IRS attacked groups that support Israel and conservative causes? We were part of that. I was personally.
If I'm Not Doing Anything Wrong, Why Should I Care About Surveillance?
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jeremy-carp/should-i-care-about-nsa-surveillance_b_3461917.html"Despite recent uproar over the secret collection of Americans' telephone records and internet activity, government surveillance programs have long thrived under the indifference of Americans. A major source of this apathy is the enduring myth that law-abiding citizens have little reason to fear surveillance. If one has nothing to hide, the reasoning goes, then why care about being watched?"
Read that article. All it takes for for evil is for good people to do nothing. Apathy on privacy is dangerous and wrong - and assumes complete trust in our government. How many times have we warned people on how many subjects? How many times were were wrong? Ever? Not once. Do you trust our government? Look what has already happened to innocent people by this current administration.
Privacy Is Not Secrecy; Debunking The 'If You've Got Nothing To Hide...' Argument
https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20110524/00084614407/privacy-is-not-secrecy-debunking-if-youve-got-nothing-to-hide-argument.shtml"But the problem with the nothing-to-hide argument is the underlying assumption that privacy is about hiding bad things. By accepting this assumption, we concede far too much ground and invite an unproductive discussion about information that people would very likely want to hide. As the computer-security specialist Schneier aptly notes, the nothing-to-hide argument stems from a faulty "premise that privacy is about hiding a wrong." Surveillance, for example, can inhibit such lawful activities as free speech, free association, and other First Amendment rights essential for democracy."
Just within the last 100 years, IBM used it's own census data for the Nazis to find and kill over 6 million Jews. That was very real. Think about how much more information they collect today. Did they have anything to hide? Did they do anything wrong or illegal?
There is so much on this subject. I try not to scare people... but your privacy matters. And so does the privacy of your family and loved ones.
