Facebook Page Urges Frugal Israelis to Move to Berlin

A group of Israelis living in Berlin has shocked compatriots back home by urging them to move to Germany as a much cheaper alternative to living in the Jewish state, AFP reports Monday.

"It is time to immigrate to Berlin," says the group's Hebrew-language Facebook page entitled "Let's Immigrate to Berlin" which offers practical tips for those seeking an alternative to the high cost of living in Israel.

But the page has triggered anger in Israel, where leaving is regarded by many as a form of desertion.

And to abandon the biblical land of milk and honey for cheaper dairy products in the birthplace of the Nazi Holocaust has touched a particularly raw nerve.

High rents and food costs, particularly that of cottage cheese, an Israeli staple, were among the triggers of a popular protest movement that peaked in 2011 with record numbers of Israelis from all walks of life taking to the streets and squatting in urban tent camps.

"The page is organized by a group of Israelis who understand how you feel, who have also suffered from the extreme cost of accommodation and food in Israel," the group's page says.

"We help you to fit in and acclimatise in the new city, a place where there are no worries about making ends meet. Where there is no need to choose between buying cottage cheese at the supermarket or sending your daughter to enrichment activities."

The site shows what it says is a typical grocery receipt, showing items such as orange juice, milk, dairy desserts, pasta and cheese at prices far lower than the cheapest Israeli discount chain.

The existence of the site made the front page of Israeli tabloid Maariv on Monday, provoking the rage of political columnist Ben Caspit.

"Let's get into the incomprehensible fact that 75 years after Berlin shook under Nazi boots and...Hitler's SS, it's as if nothing happened," he wrote. "Israelis are flocking back to Berlin. It's hard for them here, in the only Jewish country... They're comfortable in Berlin. Out of all the places in the world, in Berlin."

The phenomenon is not a new one.

Just a year ago, Finance Minister Yair Lapid (Yesh Atid), who swept into government on the coattails of the 2011 protests, decried "all the people who are fed up and leaving for Europe."

"I have little patience for people who are willing to throw into the garbage the only country the Jews have, because it's more comfortable in
Berlin," he posted on Facebook.

Israelis have been flocking to Germany despite the rampant anti-Semitism raging through both the country and worldwide.

Anti-Semitism throughout Europe reached record highs during the past few months as incitement and attacks against Jews - mostly led by Muslim the extremists, but also elements from the far-right and far-left - left Jewish communities throughout the continent in a state of shock.

Germany's Jewish community in July, at the height of the fighting between Israel and terrorists in Gaza, condemned an "explosion of evil and violent hatred of Jews" at pro-Palestinian rallies where some demonstrators chanted that Jews should be "gassed".

The spate of ugly incidents that deeply unsettled Germany's resurgent 200,000-strong Jewish community also saw a petrol bomb hurled at the facade of a synagogue in the western city of Wuppertal. Three people, described as "Palestinian" nationals, have been arrested in connection to that attack.

Anti-Semitism has become so high recently that German Chancellor Angela Merkel, along with Jewish leaders, spearheaded a rally in a central Berlin square against Jew hatred earlier this month.

Despite the attacks, some 11,000 Israelis are estimated to be living in Berlin alone, according to Germany‘s Federal Office for Migration and Refugees.

I really hate to say this:  If Jews emigrate from Israel to Germany, then they'll get what they deserve.  Jews can't be that stupid (or naïve), can they???

Leftist Jews SHOULD move to Berlin.

For [censored]'s sake.

No they shouldn't. That's as antithetical to Kahanism as most of what you say. They can be cured under a righteous government in Israel. You go to [censored] Berlin.

Don't be absurd. The extreme leftists can attack Israel from America and Germany and the moon if they go there, and there's already plenty of Arabs there, and the departure of the leftists will ensure a lot of Jewish houses, though they may not be run kosher, will probably be sold to Arabs.

More importantly, the Jewish people are one body. You don't wish your hand would leave if there's warts, you heal the warts.

Any Israeli who moves to Berlin is doing so because they want no part of a Torah state. A Kahanist government would really make them flee.

Is the Berlin pudding protest lining someone's pocket?

Reports indicate that man behind Facebook page urging young Israelis to emigrate to Berlin to protest rising cost of living may have ties to Berlin real estate sector, language instruction school • Pro-emigration rally planned for Tuesday in Tel Aviv.

Who is the man behind the Facebook page encouraging Israelis to leave the country and move to Berlin?

Recent queries have sparked a spate of rumors and unverified accounts on the Internet. According to one version, the mystery man is an expatriate Israeli in his 20s who has ties to the German real estate business, as well as a connection to a language instruction school.

Despite the assumptions, and interviews the man has given anonymously to various media outlets, as of Sunday his name had not been released.

Information obtained by Israel Hayom indicates that the man has been active in encouraging Israeli emigration to Berlin for some weeks. In September, he commented on a Facebook status by Labor MK Shelly Yachimovich, writing: "Shelly, our generation has decided: Berlin. That's just where your generation drove us. Our heart will always be in Israel, and we'll come back when it's possible to buy a home or two cartons of milk, bread and cheese without applying for a bank loan."

Meanwhile, the pro-emigration page has sparked a number of others, with at least 17 similar groups springing up recently encouraging Israeli emigration to cities such as New York, Stuttgart, London, Prague and Moscow

The Israel is Precious to Us Association has sent a vehement letter to the Victory and Rami Levi supermarket chains, which have decided to temporarily lower the price of a Milky pudding snack -- the item on which the latest "leave Israel" movement has focused -- to one shekel ($0.27), as opposed to the average price of NIS 2.90 ($0.78.)

"Don't buy us off with specials," the letter read. "The public demands fairness and low regular food prices. The high cost of living in Israel has become insufferable for several reasons, including the huge concentration in the [food] sector. Prices must be dropped permanently."

Rami Levi said Sunday that he had dropped the cost of the Milky pudding treats "out of solidarity with the cost of living. I'm losing money on this special."

Strauss, which produces Milky, said on Sunday: "The Berlin product is not Milky. There's no place in the world where Milkys are sold more cheaply than in Israel."

Meanwhile, unlike the Milky's whipped cream topping, which always vanishes quickly, the frenzy whipped up by the protest leaders is only increasing. Left-wing activists are planning to hold a large rally on Tuesday encouraging Israelis to leave. The protest is scheduled to take place in Rabin Square, which is named after the man who called Israeli emigrants "lost souls." By Sunday evening, some 2,000 people had said they would participate.

On the invitation to the event, the protest organizer wrote: "I have personally approached German Chancellor Angela Merkel and requested work visas for thousands of Israelis whose country has given up on them."
Thy destroyers and they that make thee waste shall go forth of thee.  Isaiah 49:17

Not always. Search and see the Rav's commentary of the "fifth species "

Succot: Not Everyone is Included in the “Four Species”

Major functionaries at home joining the side of our enemy require us to take another look at the known midrash about how the “four species” symbolize different levels in Am Yisrael.

It is impossible to ignore anymore the growing and obscene phenomenon, where functionaries from home mobilize time and time again to further the cause of our bitter enemies. Whenever possible, they rise from within us, under the orchestration of the media, to demoralize the nation during its fight for existence, while furthering the interests of the enemy. The question is: How should we relate to these people? Are they one of us, or are they “beyond the pale”?

One of the famous midrashim in connection to Succot, compares the four species to the unity of Israel: “Just as the Etrog has both taste and smell, so too do the Jewish People have within it people who have Torah and good deeds: Lulav…has taste and no smell, and so too there are those who have Torah and no good deeds…Just as the Hadas has smell and no taste…(there are those) with good deeds and no Torah…Just as the “Arava” has no smell and no taste, so (there are those) who have no Torah and no good deeds. And what does the Almighty do to them? To destroy them would be impossible! But rather the Almighty said that he will tie them all up in one unit and they will atone for one another”. (Vayikra Raba, 30:12)

Considering our opening statements, there is a need for some clarification in light of this amazing midrash which mentions how the Aravot are held tightly together with the rest of Am Yisrael.

The worst kind of Jew spoken of here is the Arava, who is not destroyed, because the righteous atone for him. They are Jews “who have no Torah and no good deeds”. True, we are not talking about the cream of the crop – but we are talking about Jews who are ready to be part of the union of Am Yisrael, connected to them so that the righteous can atone for them. We are not talking about Jews, who G-d forbid, sever themselves from the collective and detest their own Jewishness. We are not discussing Jews who the sages spoke of when they said that in the days of Messiah, there will be Jews who will identify with and join forces with the enemy. About such Jews, the above midrash does not speak. On the contrary. The idea of the midrash is two-fold. On one hand, G-d does not desire to see the wicked of Israel destroyed. On the other hand, we are talking about only those who are willing to join part of Klal Yisrael. Only he merits this special atonement, reserved for one who feels belonging to the collective of the Jewish Nation.

It must be known: Relatively speaking, there really are only a few. But through all the generations, and especially in this final era before the complete redemption, there were always Jews who took themselves out of the collective, and deep inside of them, identified more with the goyim than with the Jews.

And so, it is a great mistake to identify such people as the “Arava” described in the midrash. For while the Arava is still an only an Arava, it still has a belonging to the Jewish collective. While it has no taste or smell, at least it does not give off a putrid or damaging smell. The Arava sees himself as part of the four species and does not nullify his Jewishness, nor does he want to be like a gentile. By this very fact, he is able to absorb within him the smell and taste of the others. We must also remember that there are certain things that disqualify the four species from being Kosher. And so, though we are never happy about disqualifying a Jew, there are those who are rejected, and not tied together with the rest of the four species.

The nation is willing to absorb the individual sinners, and to cover and atone for them so that they will not perish with their sins (even though this causes us great suffering as a people). It is ready to hold on tightly to them with all its might in order to unite them, for we Jews are all guarantors for one another. But the nation is not ready to carry under its wing he who in his very essence is an aberrant traitor. Such people remove themselves from the Succah of Israel, and as much as it hurts to say, they are beyond the pale for us.

Tag,

I understand what the Rav is saying in that article, but there are more questions which we must ponder.

What exactly is meant by Talmud Mesechet Eruvin 19a

Even the "emptiest" of Jews is as full of Mitzvot as a pomegranate: Eruvin 19a

Quote
Insights for Introductory Mishnah

"Every Jew has a Share in The World to Come…"

The "World to Come" of which the introduction to our study of Pirkei Avot speaks is the era of the Resurrection of the Dead (where souls will once again be united with physical bodies), not Gan Eden (where the soul is without a physical body).

Gan Eden is acquired as a reward for learning Torah, and is therefore connected with the soul and its intellectual powers. Since there are great differences between one person and another in terms of understanding Torah, therefore the reward which accrues is not equal for everyone (and some do not even enter Gan Eden at all).

The World to Come, however, is given to every Jew - "All Israel have a share in the World to Come" - for it is given to a Jew as his reward for fulfilling the mitzvot with his physical body. Every Jew had the possibility of fulfilling the practical mitzvot, and indeed, every Jew does fulfill mitzvot, so that even "sinners are as full of mitzvot as a pomegranate is full of seeds," as our Sages declare.

(Biurim l'Pirkei Avot)

You shall make yourself the Festival of Sukkoth for seven days, when you gather in [the produce] from your threshing floor and your vat.And you shall rejoice in your Festival-you, and your son, and your daughter, and your manservant, and your maidservant, and the Levite, and the stranger, and the orphan, and the widow, who are within your cities

Let me add,  concerning the topic, that I consider it a Chillul Hashem if any Jews move from Israel to live in Germany....

Those who do this will certainly deserve any misfortune experienced at the hands of essau & ishmael...
