Why don't you bring a sandwich from home?

while this not a perfect solution, a helpful guideline is, that when you are in a situation where you cannot pick and choose precisely kosher food over treif food, that you behave as if you are a vegetarian.  that takes care of worrying about kosher for the most part, although people who are stricter about kosher laws would disagree with me

i see we have some mcDonald's fans here.  okay, then i feel safe to admit that i really love their fish sandwiches and chocolate shakes.  so much pleasure for so little money!  it sure beats eating that pale-faced, scanty, organic nonsense
My 16 year old works at McDonalds. Its her first job and she loves the responsibility, but then she's always been responsible. I LOVE the Fillet o' Fish sandwiches and chocolate shakes also. However we all cook homemade at home about 5 days out of the week. :) YES we eat fried chicken, but maybe twice a month...I'm partial to baked or boiled chicken myself. Watermelon? YES we eat that too but its not because we're black, its because we love sweet fruit.

Since we're on the subject, why is it so funny that there are blacks who eat fried chicken? Why the buckets and bucked eyed pictures? And why is eating watermelon a bad thing? That is the purpose of having watermelon, right...to eat it?

It's just a sereotype, Erica. Nothing to get upset over, like Aussies with beer and meat pies or Pommies with fish & chips.

A poster (I forget who) was telling a story here about a black guy he works with. This black guy apparently lived in a mostly white building. He got into an argument with his wife over the phone 'coz she wanted him to bring home a watermelon. He refused, claiming she should have told him before he left home so he could have taken a large sportsbag to hide the melon in.

Apparently he hated the idea of walking through his building with a watermelon and looking like a negro stereotype.

BTW: I'm surprised you posted that you eat fried chicken and watermelon without saying " and this is for YOU, Newman!". ;)

I eat strict kosher at home but when I eat out, I just eat dairy. I never eat non-kosher meat.

I know... I'm really working on it. It's so tough when there are no kosher places to eat and you work on a team at a big office. I really try to be careful. I need to get myself to Israel (or at least New York).
I was going to say, you must not live in New York.  I don't think you need to go very far in any direction before coming upon a Kosher deli. :D

I wasn't trying to be funny this time. I really wanted to know. Everytime you all talk about fried chicken and watermelon and blacks, you make it seem like an insult; as if blacks' lives depend on whether they're going to eat them. Are there any stereotypical foods that Jewish people eat that people make fun of? Have you ever seen a picture of a Jewish guy bug-eyed gazing at a Kosher hotdog with a caption saying "OY VEY! THIS HOTDOG IS LIKE BUDDAH!" (?) I mean, its only food right?

As for the story, I don't think anyone should be ashamed to buy Watermelon. So when you're hiding a watermelon in a duffle bag because you don't want the world to think you like to eat it, I have to really question your mental stability. (*YOUR* and *YOU* as in anyone who'd do such a thing, not to be considered black.)

Yes, Erica there are many stereotypical Jewish foods. Gefilte fish probably the most talked about. Ashkenazi Jews are said to have such bland food, people always talk of them living on herring and rye bread.

So stereotypes are all over.

That gefilte fish in a jar is the most horrible stuff. It's so gross! That... and borsche!! YUK!!

The forzen gefilte fish is pretty good. Gefilte fish is just like the Jewish kosher version of spam. lol

Erica this guy that said this often said stuff like this to be funny he had a million of things like this that he would come out with. The worse part of it all was that you never knew if he was serious or just trying to be funny. Here is the post I have put it on the forum a few different times here it is again. Mr. Knox if you still on the earth and read JTF this is for you.

Some years back I worked with a black fellow who lived in Lefrack City NY. He was talking on the phone  with his wife one day and she asked him to bring home a watermelon. He told her he would not bring one home and got into a argument of sorts with her over her request. The parting blow was by him when he told her if she wanted him to bring home watermelons from now on  she had to buy him a bowling ball bag. After he got off the phone I became nosy and had to get some details. It seems at the time there was still many white folks living in the high rise buildings  and he was embarrassed to walk up to the elevator with the melon under his arm. His exact words were all the white folks will be saying to themselves here he comes with the watermelon. Anyway he said if he put the melon in the bowling ball bag it would look like he was out bowling. My question is this a common worry for black folks?

Because some white people think that all black people live for is fried chicken and watermelon, the subject is a sore spot for blacks. I love fried chicken and watermelon (not together) but I hate it when some people associate the foods with black people solely and in a negative way. I don't understand it. Some blacks don't like chicken, fried or otherwise...some blacks are vegan. Some blacks are allergic to watermelon...I don't know why...it isn't a racial thing. (My stepdaughter is allergic to oranges...or the citric acid in them.) Why are the foods associated with being bad blacks?

There's no association with BAD blacks, just blacks.

Like there's an association with ashkenazi Jews and herring & rye bread. Polaks with black bread & onions. Chinese with rice & eating cats.

It's nothing to get upset about.

The moron that New York city has for a mayor is saying that this is the safest city in the world. Compared to what, the cities in South Africa? Just because he says the stats are down by 10 or 20 percent of a figure that is way to high to begin with is no reason to feel that we live in a utopia. It seems that the crimes are getting worse, I am not referring to the numbers of crime, but the brutalilty of the crimes. The story I am now posting happened to blacks by black criminals. I am fed up with this kind of brutalilty and sick behaviour. I have no idea what sparked this insane crime but all I know is that it could have happened ot you and yours or my family and I thank the creator that it did not happen to our Yasmine. This must stop! Black youth, especially gangbangers are out of control and must be constantly watched and kept in restricted area, till some sort of solution is found to 'cure' them of this urge to commit unspeakable crimes.

Cops hunt thugs in family's rape nightmare

Three gun-wielding gang members raped a mother, her teenage daughter and a teenage family friend after invading a Brooklyn apartment early yesterday, police sources said.

The brazen attackers pushed their way into the second-floor Sterling Place apartment in Crown Heights about 1 a.m., brandishing a shotgun and two pistols. They tied up the husband, 41, and two sons, 22 and 14, before donning condoms and raping the three women, sources said.

The three rape victims, a 43-year-old mother, a 17-year-old daughter and another teenage girl whose exact age was not known were all treated at Kings County Hospital, cops said.

At least two of the bound male family members were also treated for undisclosed injuries, police said.

The men, believed to be gang members, stole jewelry and money before leaving, sources said.

"It's terrible," said the father, who said he didn't want any more attention. "I don't want anything to happen to my family."

Detectives are investigating a possible connection between the rapists and a male member of the victims' family who was not present during the horrific attacks and may also be a gang member, a source said.

The Daily News is withholding the names of the family members, as victims of sex crimes and witnesses.

Because the rapists used condoms, it may be more difficult to collect DNA evidence to identify them.

The men are described as black with dreadlocks. One wore a white hooded sweatshirt and two had red scarfs over their faces, cops said.

No arrests were made. The investigation is continuing, cops said.

Edited for clarity.
