Fort Greene is a bit more diverse these days, but it's still kind of funny to see this entire incident happening over there. Disarm NYPD is supposed to be a Black Lives Matter type group, but the aspiring flag burners seem to be mostly white, as much as you can make out anything in the confusion. So Fort Greene was an odd place for them to be doing it. And an even odder place for angry flag-waving bikers to show up.
Anti-police activists were set to burn the American flag at a New York City park Wednesday evening, but their plans seemingly changed when dozens of bikers and veterans came out to counter protest.
Flocking to Brooklyn’s Fort Greene Park, individuals opposed to burning the U.S. flag waited for the “Disarm NYPD” group to arrive. While most urged for peace, several bikers threatened violence toward anyone who would burn the American flag.
“We’re here to f*** up tiny liberal punks,” a biker who refused to identify himself told TheBlaze.
Seemingly intimidated by the large group gathered in support of the American flag, the anti-police activists decided to change plans.
About 30 minutes after the scheduled flag burning was supposed to begin, the group set fire to one flag at a far corner of the park away from counter protesters.
I would suspect that we're really dealing with the usual Neo-Trots who try their own form of community activism. In this case it backfired badly on them.
After boasting about the event, its Twitter feed had nothing more to say. Even Vice covered the event with a sneer.
According to a comment on the Disarm NYPD event page by a user named Rey Lal Salam, the flag is symbolically tied to the police. "Those are the flags on the back of NYPD cars, that's the flag on every prison and court in NYC," Lal Salam wrote.
When it comes to desecrating symbols, abusing the American flag is a move that alleged Charleston shooter Dylann Roof used himself.
Their Facebook features a rant referencing assorted Latin American Marxist tropes which only reinforces how marginal these cretins are.
