The black kids throwing the rocks were throwing them just for fun. If people were walking by, they could have gotten hurt. I was going to walk there but then I saw them throwing the rocks. I think they saw me on the phone calling the police so they went away. "Yeah, dat whitey be callin de police, UMM HMM."

The black kids also endangered themselves. I think they went from the platform to the track area to pick up the rocks that sit between the rails and tides. It's like they spray graffiti on the walls of the subway. The only way they can access that area is by endangering themselves by going on the tracks.

The station is called North Philadelphia. It has signs with the names of cities as if it was a major Amtrak stop. Now all the Amtrak trains bypass it except for maybe one or two. I remember an Amtrak train stopped there when I came back from NY in 1999. I don't know if they still stop there. It's mostly just the local SEPTA Regional Rail train. But whoever is in charge doesn't bother to change the signs. There's not even a ticket window or ticket machine in the whole station. It may have been a major stop many years ago before "they took over" (the neighborhood). There was also a historic marker sign near by marking where Baker Bowl (one of the Phillies' old stadium once stood) where the Phillies hosted the 1915 World Series and it says Babe Ruth's last game took place in that stadium as well. Babe Ruth was a pitcher for the Red Sox when his Red Sox won the World Series in 1915. He played his last game with the Boston Braves in the 1930's. All the baseball stadiums were in North Philadelphia. Now the former stadium sites are all in affirmative action areas while all the sports teams now play in South Philadelphia which still has many Italian neighborhoods.

This is just a little lesson on demographic changes in American cities.
