The Citypass company, which manages the light rail in Jerusalem, decided to hold a part for Arab children in the hopes that they would stop throwing stones. Do you think it’ll work?On Monday April 4th, Arab children in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Shuafat were invited to a party sponsored by Citypass, the company that operates the light rail in Jerusalem. As is well known (see our weekly updates on the Silent Intifada) Arab children in Shuafat regularly throw stones at the light rail and often cause damage to the train cars.At the party, each Arab child was given a free bicycle, in the hopes that if the children are more occupied, they will be less likely to throw stones. A video from the event reached Hakol Hayehudi and is posted above. Here at Hakol Hayehudi, we will keep track of Arab stone throwing incidents in Shuafat and hope to post updates on the effectiveness of this policy.UPDATE: We have updated the chart below and filled in the results from the past two weeks. The weeks of March 27th and April 1st were both before the party and before the gifts were handed out. It would seem that the very week that the bicycles were handed out, there was a decrease in the number of attacks on the light rail. However, just one week later we observed the highest number of attacks in Shuafat among all of the weeks. Then just two weeks after the bicycles were handed out we witnessed nearly as many attacks in Shuafat/on the light rail as the previous four weeks combined! We let our readers draw their own conclusions about the effectiveness of appeasement….
