This is a serious problem. First of all the fact that you admit it is a very important step, the other question is did you ever try to quit gambling? and WHY???

I've been admitting it for a year, but it's hard to quit because I keep thinking I can win even though I know deep down the probability of winning is low.

well you didn`t answer to my question, if you have ever tried to quit? and if you tried, please try to tell some reasons why have you been trying. I want to analize together with you your problem.

Are you willing to try? you can save some money over time and do something useful with them, like buy something really nice, something you always wanted and never had possibilities because of your problem with gambling...what do you say? Are you willing to try?

Just stay the heck away from the casinos. I'm gambling phobic. I hate Atlantic City and do everything I can to stay away with it. The only times I've went was when I had other friends go there. The few times I was there, all I did was play the nickel slots to help pass the time. I noticed one time that in the lobby of one of the casinos, they actually have speakers broadcasting the sounds of coins clanging. Every little nuance of design in the casinos, from the chiming and clanging sounds, to the colorful designs, and even the pumping of extra oxygen into the casinos is designed to keep us there as long as possible and to vacuum our wallets dry. So just stay away from the casinos as well as any type of casino nights that some churches sometimes offer. Seek therapy if you need to. I know an excellent one in Queens if you live around there. Best of luck to ya.

I have to say I agree with your point of view about casinos. A few years back I went to Atlantic City for a few days. I did very little gambling a hour or so  a day at the quarter machine with a set amount of money about 50 bucks. When the money gave out I was off to the Boardwalk. The friends  I went down there with and I  spent a great deal of the time  walking through all the shops and places on the Boardwalk. We went to Hooters and sat at the counter near the short order cooks and had them and the waitresses  rolling on the ground with all jokes about the place we were making. We went into one of the old bars that had pool tables in it and got into a killer game of pool with the locals it was great fun. A.C  isn't bad but its not for people who have a gambling problem. The Indian casinos are far worse they are geared to gambling only and I find them very boring. The few times I went to them I only lasted there a few hours before the place became a real drag.

That is an excellent idea that I have already been thinking about. I began gambling when I was 18 years old and attending college at the same time. I started beating my friends at poker and soon went to Atlantic City. I lost $5,000 in 3 weeks and had to drop out of college because I had no more money left. I then started working full-time and was being paid enough to continue to gamble. I can't even go back to college because I spend too much money gambling. I would like to quit gambling and save enough money to go back to college. Thank You for your helpful suggestion.

I've noticed that intelligent people have a higher winning rate in gambling. Do you think this is because they understand probability better? Maybe I should've finished college before I started gambling.

It was luck.

The money I won on that jackpot may have made up for most of my gambling losses up until that point.

The most intelligent people probably avoid gambling all together.

I have even better suggestion then that! for start, what do you say about joining a group G.A. ( Gamblers Anonymous). You can search Google for local area meetings. It's free and you're welcomed to join!!!!

OK. I've never thought of doing that because I don't think it can work but I'll try. I'm really so tired of burning my money that I will make a serious effort to stop.

I will make an appointment with a psychologist. Do you think psychologists often refer people to group discussions? I live in Queens.

I think it's expensive to go to the psychologist, and the results are the same!
