I know it's not that time of the year yet...but when any Jew or Jewish groups get offended when there are Christmas displays in public areas and no recognition of Hanukah with displays next to them...What's the deal? Where were you last on Sukkot and Pesach and Shavuot? You make such a big deal about Hanukah which in itself is a great holiday for Jews..but Christmas is an even greater holiday for Christians in comparison...pisses me off. Want to kick them in the nuts!
-
I don't think it's right for there to be Christian displays in public places, but that said those Jewish groups are mainly the liberal ones and they really should show some true Ahavat Yisrael instead of fighting about Christmas trees

This is a Christian country...let them celebrate to their hearts' desire...certainly I would like the same favor when our most important holidays turn the corner..

While the majority of the population is Christian the country claims not to have an official religion. As such it should either have displays for all religions or no religions.......
-
I think that Christmas isnt celebrated as a religious holiday as much as it use to be, I know I dont celebrate it that way, no matter what its supposed to be, its more of a commercial holiday now.
-
Christmas is an official government holiday. So if people want to put up Christian displays, so be it.
I agree that the ones whining about the lack of Chanukah displays are the liberal non-religious ones. Even though Chanukah is not one of the major Jewish holidays like Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot and Passover, these people still try and make a big deal of it. They're the ones that go around buying each other Channukah presents. I think they just do that so they don't feel left out during all the Christmas festivities. I somehow doubt these people observe the other holidays as much as they do Chanukah.
-
Both holidays should be displayed. When I was in Public shool, we had both holidays displayed. All of my teachers wished me a happy Hunnakkah. I did the same if they were jewish. If not, I wished them a Merry Christmas or Easter or whatever the holiday was.

I dont mean to be rude, but Chanukah is no where near the level of Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, or Pesach. Chanukah is not a Torah holiday and Jews are permitted to work on all days of Chanukah so it doesnt have the same importance.
-
I'll clarify, i'm not against menorahs and dreydals being displayed. I have a problem when jews complain when they aren't displayed with the Christmas decorations. Rather, they shoudl complain that Shavuot is not given recognition...at least that!
-
It all has to do with the demographic in a particular area. Hey, just remember, we've got it very good in comparison to other parts in the country. When I was in Oneonta, I went to the mall to try to find an electric menorah. Every store I went to, nobody knew what I was talking about. When I said, "Chanukah lamp", they still had no clue. Just on an associated topic and memory, I also remember several years ago, I went to a small local supermarket in Queens to ask where the matzo was and every single person there didn't know what the heck I was saying.
I had a friend who went to college in Cobleskill in upstate NY. Not only did she not get off for either Rosh Hashana or Yom Kippur. But the school actually gave off for the days "between" the two holidays!!! Talk about getting pissed off!!!
But nothing pisses me off more than someone who says, "Oh, you're Jewish? That means you don't believe in G-d." This past summer, I was playing Family Feud online and was mentioning how I was Jewish when a Christmas question came up. This one girl actually said, "So that means you don't believe in god." I thought she was kidding at first. When I try to explain how I'm Jewish, she reprimands me and gets pissed off at me and tells me that I'm going to burn in hell for this and how I should only believe in Jesus Christ. I was so befuddled about this and couldn't figure out whether this had more to do with antisemitism or just plain ignorance. It's as though this girl from Little Rock, AK never confronted a Jew before in her entire life.

Those Jews only go to synagogue 3 days a year (Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur), celebrate Hanukkah in a self-hating way, and have a Passover seder. You don't see them celebrating Sukkot or Shavuot.
Actually the reformed movement only goes one day for Rosh Hashanah........ so they go 2 times per year...

I guess I wasn't being clear. I agree with you that Chanukah is no where near the level of Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur, Sukkot or Pesach. My point was that the liberal, non-observant, self hating Jews, with their carping and caterwauling over Chanukah displays in public, and with their wacky ideas of giving each other eight presents for each day of the holiday, try to make it into something it's not, in order to compete with Christmas.
It seems to me that these people are almost invariably non-religious otherswise, and don't even keep kosher.

Jews should aways be welcome in any Christian country!Always

Yeah, that woulda been a good one! What I did was quote George Carlin and said that she was operating with the mentality of "my g-d has a bigger !@#$ than your g-d" and that really burnt her up big time.

How does someone celebrate Hanukkah or anything else in a "self-hating way"? If someone is truly self-hating, then they're not going to remotely celebrate anything at all in any way, shape, or form.
-
WE all know what self hating means.
-
I like true Christians very much, and encourage that they can celebrate their holidays, I want them to feast, sing, put out their decorations, and worship with with all the exuberance they can.
-
IN this day n age i think that jews should be encouraged to live in ha'eretz Israel but not forced to...
I know a lot of crazy ultra jews that say to my firends that if a jew doesn't go an live in Israel they will go to hell...
This type of talk turns people off religion when they are told to go and do something which puts them in an uncomfortable situation..
I am a fan of Judaism because of its teachings but i am annoyed when people expect you to do things according to popular beliefs... It is problematic and a great deal of people are being turned off by religion by the religious trying to pin their ideas on others...
AND IT HAPPENS IN ALL FAITHS...

When the Yankees win a game pisses me off!!

WE all know what self hating means.
That's not quite true. I get the feeling that many people define "self-hating" as anyone who doesn't agree with what someone else believes in. It seems like many people define a self-hating Jew as anyone who is in favor of the Oslo Accords, two-state solution, etc. I used to be in favor of this, but never considered myself "self-hating" because of this. My family still agrees and believes in this. I respectfully disagree with them now, but in no way do I consider them "self-hating" or doubt their love and devotion to Judaism and Zionism. I get the sense that "self-hating" is also attributed to non or less observant Jews. On both ends, I disagree with the term "self-hating" to describe them. If anything, many of these people are "other-hating" Jews.

I agree with you, Daniel...Left wing or right wing...if a Jew cares about another Jew's welfare and Israel...even if she thinks that Jerusalem should be given to the enemy for the sake of peace, they are not self-hating...just really really really dumb in my opnion.
-
Yakov your right on this one!
-
If you support a Pali state, you're not a Zionist. That is the antithesis of Zionism, not to mention the antithesis of Judaism.
the vast majority don't know any better...so they might think they are zionists...they need to be corrected and that's where chaim comes in and would have been kahane before he was murdered.
-
The National Jewish Democrat Council tries to have a war against Christmas. And they're offended that people wouldn't want a Muslim president
http://www.njdc.org/issues/detail.php?id=743&iss=2
And they think Pat Robertson is evil.

"Jews support Democrats because Democrats fight for Jewish values."
If some Jews want to vote for liberals, that's fine. It would actually be better if Jewish votes were more divided proportionately between the parties so then politicians would see it as a swing vote.
But it's annoying when they claim that Democrats represent Jewish values. That is wrong. I'm not saying that Republicans (especially when some act too liberal) fight for Jewish values, but I am not making this claim.
-
To be honest, if people want to put up Christmas trees and all that stuff, go to church, they should. The US is a Christian nation. But I also believe all of us Jews should leave the US and live only in Israel like Chaim does.
Amen to that; it not about antisemitism but jew can only be fully jewish in Eratz Yisrael; frankly speaking all those liberal jews are self hating troublemakers who drag the west in the gutter becouse they have misguided belief in brotherhood of all men are result of Galut; And lastly if G-d wants all or clear mayority of Israelites to live in Palestine he must be realy displeased that largest jewish country today is USA not Israel. Do any one thinks that all those plagues that fall on US is the result of American Jewry refusal to make Alijah? We Christians must of cousrse love Jews and support Jewish State in Palestine and welcome them as guests but we shoud not live together becouse it breads antisemitism; jewish apostasy and G-d's wratch.
-
I like Christmas I am very fond of plum puddling, custard and cream :D
I eat too much and get fat, spend all year losing the weight to do it all again ;)
Arrrggghh yes some feasts are just too good. Plus the double time and a half I get paid for working through the holidays.
I can't complain. 8)
-
I don't mind Xmas trees, plus it's not really religious anymore, it's seen more as a secular holiday than anything. Heck I know plenty of atheists who even celebrate Xmas.

The United States is not, and I repeat - The United States is not a Christian state, or any other religion's state.
Christmes is already estate of many seculers, and it's considered by tham as seculer holiday, not as religous holiday, Hanukah is on the same status. On the other hane, Passover and Sukkot - for exemple, are assumed to be more religous holidays - though in Israel sukkot have the same status as Hanukah.

Dexter, AS is Resurrection day[Easter] more holy than Christmas.I get your point.

If you support a Pali state, you're not a Zionist. That is the antithesis of Zionism, not to mention the antithesis of Judaism.
That's not true. The basic definition of a Zionist is someone who believes in having a sovereign Jewish state. So it is possible to be a Zionist and also have aspirations to develop a Palestinian state. Now if a Jew believes in the complete elimination and destruction of the Jewish state, then that's a whole other matter all-together. I was on a list like that several years ago, so I've seen what they are like. Any support of Israel, no matter how little it might be, was regarded as violent racism. The two state solution was a racist solution. Dershowitz, Lerner, and even A.N.S.W.E.R. didn't go far enough for them! They always accused me of being a racist! Me! Mr. Liberal!
I think it's important to differentiate between Jews who are in favor of a two-state solution and those who want the complete elimination of the state of Israel. A two-state solutioner, while unrealistic and misguided, is still a Zionist. Someone who wants the complete destruction and elimation of Israel is a self-hating Jew.

Daniel,
You have no business whatsoever being on this forum.
Your views are those of someone so mixed up and brainwashed that you're a discombobulated nonentity.
You've never followed or read anything taught by Rabbi Meir Kahane, and it's all too obvious.
Leave this forum.
And just who the hell do you think you are???
I never said that I agree with the two-state solution. In fact, I now disagree with it! I stated how I have changed my views over time and no longer agree with the two-state solution and the peace process. Chaim praised me on one of his Ask JTF programs and said I was a real man. So don't try to paint me as someone who subscribes to this. Just because I explain and understand something doesn't mean I "agree" with it. It takes someone with a real non-Nazi brain to recognize the difference. Do you?
Either way, don't you dare talk to me like that again, schmuckhole!

It is a big mitzvah to put menorah's in as many public places as possible so as to publicize the miracle of Chanuka (called "pirsumei nisa").
There is no such similar mitzvah to publicize the holidays of Succot, Pesach or Shavuot.

You guys, please don't fight.
Personally, I think "Zionists" who favor a two state solution are ignorant and misguided. The Arabs do not want to peacefully co-exist. They want to push the Jews into the sea. All this talk of have a new Arab Muslim Nazi terrorist state is nothing but taqiya.
Luckily, Daniel has seen the light, and no longer favors such lunacy.

Why would anyone support a Palestinian state? The only place for these people is in Egypt or Jordan. They are doing what all muslims do, creating new states to slowly take over the world, they did this with India (Pakistan) and look what happened, now Pakistan has nukes. Palestinians are the same, they will lie to the world to get a country.

I don't understand. How come? I mean, Sukkot..fine i understand... But Pesach...the Almighty rescuing us from slavery the birth of our nation..that's a HUGE miracle compared to Chanukah...So on Pesach, something ought to be displayed...and Shavuot..are you kidding me?! That's a huge huge huge deal because it is about our receiving of the Torah...without this miracle Torah and our Gd given brains to study and follow the Torah, there would be no understanding of Gd by Christians and certain Muslims perhaps.
-
Out of my ignorance I do not understand the Jewish traditions and Jewish holidays. If Jews in America want to enjoy their Holidays with whatever decorations and symbols on display in public I'm for it. IMHO I believe that both our respective Holidays should be placed in public as a sign of solidarity with each other, even though we believe in different theologies. The Jewish and Christian cultures both respect life and cherish living. Our eternal enemy supports death.
-
Why would anyone support a PLO/Hamas Arab Muslim Nazi state? The only place for these people is in Egypt or Jordan. They are doing what all muslims do, creating new states to slowly take over the world, they did this with India (Pakistan) and look what happened, now Pakistan has nukes. PLO/Hamas Arab Muslim Nazis are the same, they will lie to the world to get a country.
Once again, I have to start off by clarifying that I'm merely giving an explanation, but NOT giving an endorsement to this rationale. Those who are in favor of a two-state solution are concerned about the Arabs eventually becoming a majority. They don't agree with the Kahanist view of expelling them from Israel. So their solution is to give up land in order to preserve a Jewish majority in a smaller Israel. My very first question on Ask JTF was about this which Chaim stated was a lie. The ones who believe in a two-state solution also believe that Israel has always chosen land over security and feel that occupying less land would make Israel more secure. I know it sounds nonsensical and perhaps even crazy, but keep in mind, I'm just providing explanations that I've heard from others. So please, don't confuse my "explaining" and "understanding" with agreements or endorsements since I do NOT agree with this.

It is not the majority of Jews that push for this nonsense. It is a minority of super-self-hating kapos who hate Christians (and Israel for that matter) who do. Mainstream American Jews may be left-wing and secular, but the idea that most of them have a personal beef with Christians is hogwash.

i can't agree with you; Egipt shoud be brought back to its native egiptian non A-rab population; and Jordan is (future) part of Palestine; the only place where a-rab muslim nazi belongs is KSA and preferably six foot under it. We can't tolerate the fine lands from Maroco to Indonesia being turned into inproductive muslim hellholes. Boot the Invaders out! Free Israel from A-rabs!

I bet it becouse thay're leftist and/or liberal just like mayority of Jews in Poland (in reality persons with jewish roots we have dozen or two sinagogues in entire country and only Warsaw's ortodox one is realy active rest is tourist atrction for Israeli and American jewry); the solution is to make all American Jews Cahanists.
