FBI’s New Mission: Combat Female Genital Mutilation
Because this is Islamaba…uh, I mean America.
More than 500,000 women and girls are at risk of undergoing, or have already been subjected to, female genital mutilation. As if the barbaric practice were not bad enough, consider the disturbing fact that this grim statistic reflects victims living here in the United States, not somewhere in the Islamic world.
So bad, in fact, is the problem that the Federal Bureau of Investigation has dedicated a special investigation into the gruesome practice. The FBI’s official site states:
Female genital mutilation, also called cutting or FGM, involves partial or total removal of the external genitalia for non-medical reasons, with no discernible health benefits. Nearly one-third of the estimated 513,000 women at risk are under the age of 18, according to the CDC and PRB data.
The FBI is proactively investigating tips and leads on this illegal practice. Investigators are hoping victims and community members who are opposed to it will come forward and report cases.
Earlier this year, the FBI and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) recognized the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation (February 6) in a joint statement calling for eradication of the practice. […]
Practitioners claim they are abiding by deeply rooted beliefs and traditions. But it is more broadly seen as a human-rights violation. “It reflects deep-rooted inequality between the sexes and constitutes an extreme form of discrimination against women and girls,” the U.N. said in a statement.
The FBI notes that despite being a “criminal violation” the practice still continues undeterred.
“We believe some of it is being conducted by medical practitioners—physicians, nurses, midwives—and some by female elders within the communities who have the distinction of being what is called a cutter,” said Special Agent Kerry Sparks.
Special legislation barring FGM was passed back in 1996, prompting Islamic families to send their female members back to their home countries where they could undergo the savage procedure unimpeded. This prompted yet another piece of legislation, dubbed the “Transport for Female Genital Mutilation Act,” to be passed in 2012. The bill makes “vacation cutting” illegal.
Still, the practice continues in the U.S., and virtually no one — including victims or their family members — ever reports the crime.
“Unfortunately, it is a rare occasion when someone steps forward to report this crime to law enforcement,” the FBI website states. “Most states don’t have their own laws criminalizing FGM, so many people may not know it’s a federal violation.”
“A lot of our efforts focus on increasing community awareness,” said Thomas Bishop, chief of the IHRU. “We want people to know that the FBI is committed to preventing FGM within the United States.”
Perhaps one way the FBI could exhibit its “commitment” is to challenge the politically correct agenda being thrust on it by President Obama and his band of leftwing minions. The bureau is already expected to keep us safe from Islamic terrorists without even using the word “terrorists” nor identifying the perpetrators as Muslim.
Consider that most people fled Islamic countries for the U.S. expressly to escape this kind of savagery. It is unthinkable that such a heinous practice is taking place right here in the United States. This is not Islamabad. This is not Riyadh. Yet Islam ensures no escape.
Also of note is that you will never hear liberals standing up for victims of female genital mutilation. You will never hear any left-wing lawmaker or celebrity raise awareness for the real victims of the actual “war on women.” Because doing so would expose their hypocrisy and utter spinelessness.
The video report featured above provides a good overview of the epidemic and is worth sharing.
