CIA director: Iran Still Funds Terrorism
CIA director John Brennan noted that the United States will have to deal with the Iranian government’s support for terrorists, regardless of the outcome of the nuclear “negotiations”. [As if Iran isn’t going to lie as they always have.]
“The nuclear program is one issue that we’re hoping to be able to halt, but also we see that Iran is still a state-sponsor of terrorism,” Brennan said on Fox News Sunday. “And so what we have to do — whether there’s a deal or not — is to continue to keep pressure on Iran and to make sure that it is not able to continue to destabilize a number of the countries in the region.”
Iran’s support for terrorism is one of the factors that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged Congress to oppose the deal being negotiated by President Obama’s team.
“[T]his deal has two major concessions: one, leaving Iran with a vast nuclear program and two, lifting the restrictions on that program in about a decade. That’s why this deal is so bad. It doesn’t block Iran’s path to the bomb; it paves Iran’s path to the bomb,” he said. “Iran’s neighbors know that Iran will become even more aggressive and sponsor even more terrorism when its economy is unshackled and it’s been given a clear path to the bomb.”
Senator Ted Cruz (R., Texas) offered legislation that would expand sanctions on Iran. “It’s time to tell the American people the truth. These talks are not going to prevent the Islamic Republic of Iran, the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism, from getting a nuclear weapon,” Cruz said Friday. “The Obama administration is circumventing the will of the American people, who do not support this deal.”
