Alternate Universe: Jews Not Invited to Swedish Holocaust Commemoration
Because anti-Semites show up instead.
Imagine the public outrage that would ensue if members of the black community were not invited to an event commemorating victims of slavery in America. Now imagine if the “reason” given by event organizers for said exclusion is because members of the KKK will be attending the occasion instead.
The following incident is worse.
Organizers of an event in Sweden commemorating Kristallnacht, or “Night of Broken Glass,” a devastating pogrom which marked the onset of the Holocaust, have decided it is too much trouble to invite … Jews. Their reasoning? Last year’s commemoration brought all sorts of anti-Semites (mainly pro-Palestinian activists) out of the woodwork, thus inviting Jews to an event supposedly intended to honor their forebears would pose a “security threat.”
“Umeå against Nazism” will run in the city of Umeå on Tuesday and Wednesday, commemorating Kirstallnacht, or the “Night of Broken Glass,” the massive 1938 pogrom against Austrian and German Jews which is seen as marking the start of the holocaust.
But, absurdly, Jews will not be invited.
The organizers claim that inviting the Jewish community presents a security risk, nt.se reports, citing anti-Semitic and anti-Israel protests present at past events.
“In previous years, we have had a lot of Palestinian flags at these rallies, and even one banner where the Israeli flag was equated with a swastika,” organizer and local Workers’ Party member Jan Hägglund told locals. “The Jewish community wasn’t invited because we assumed they might be uncomfortable around that sort of thing.”
So organizers are not inviting Jews to an event commemorating victims of anti-Semitism because anti-Semites attend the event instead. This seems perfectly logical.
Critics claim that Hägglund’s omission must be due to the crowd he invited to the event, implying that it could only be far-left or anti-Israel – thus creating the environment which justified the “security risk.”
Doubling down on their utter uselessness, Swedish organizers also downplayed the event’s entire purpose, touting it as an opportunity to spread a general message of tolerance rather than specifically condemn anti-Semitism and commemorate the roughly 30,000 Jews who were deported to Nazi concentration camps during Kristallnacht.
Meanwhile, the event’s Facebook page appears to even downplay the Jewish community’s role in the event, instead conveying a generalized, vanilla message of tolerance – not opposition to anti-Semitism.
Fortunately, the few local officials who’ve managed to retain some level of sanity are slated to host counter-rallies in protest, according to the Times of Israel.
As Europe clings to multiculturalism like a lover, Europeans cannot even muster the wherewithal to mark a Holocaust remembrance properly. The degree of hypocrisy and spinelessness on display is utterly breathtaking and signals that refugees bent on delivering the death blow to Western civilization will ultimately succeed.
