“I am deeply saddened, by the massacre, at the Synagogue in Pittsburgh Saturday.
As a child I watched “The Hiding Place” and later read the book. It shaped my views on how Christians should feel about and treat the Jewish people. It is the true story of Corrie ten Boom and her family’s efforts to save as many Jews as possible from the Nazis. The ten Boom family felt that it was their Christian duty to protect Jews.
There is one line, in particular, that is burned into my heart.
At one point, referring to German soldiers, Corrie’s father tells her, “I pity them, for they have touched the apple of God’s eye.” This is a reference to Zechariah 2:8.
The Jews are God’s chosen people. Christianity and Judaism are intertwined. Jesus was born a Jew.
I believe that it is a Christian’s duty to love the Jewish people. Antisemitism is the worst form of bigotry.”
