Conway: Trump ‘Didn’t Lie’ About Debate Moderator Because He Didn’t Check to See if His Claim Was True
Donald Trump’s campaign manager said the GOP nominee made a verifiably false claim about the presidential debate moderator without knowing whether his assertion was true.
Asked by MSNBC about why Trump said NBC’s Lester Holt was a Democrat when he’s actually a registered Republican, Kellyanne Conway said she’s not sure Trump knew anything about Holt’s voter registration.
“He didn’t lie about Lester Holt,” Conway told MSNBC. “A lie would mean that he knew the man’s party registration.”
Conway proceeded to bemoan the reporters covering the Trump campaign. She said she isn’t satisfied with the reporters’ tweets, which she has printed out and placed on her desk.
The first presidential debate is on Monday night in New York.
