Laws of Lighting the Menorah
« on: November 13, 2007, 09:26:10 PM »
I was recently studying this in the Shulchan Arukh and was surprised to see how many laws there were. I knew that all the candles has to be on the same level, but I didn't know for example, that the candles have to be in a straight line and cannot be in a circle.

Does anyone know why so many menorahs are made in circles (even traditional ones) when the Shulchan Arukh clearly forbids it. Is there another source that says it is permissable or not?

I've never seen a circular one.  I believe it's only the branches that can't be in a circle...

Laws of Hannukah. Available both in Text and Audio, also available is quick summary.
The Academy of Elijah taught, whoever studies the laws (of the Torah) every day, (he) is guaranteed to have a share in the World to Come.

‏119:139 צִמְּתַתְנִי קִנְאָתִי כִּישָׁכְחוּ דְבָרֶיךָ צָרָי
My zeal incenses me, for my adversaries have forgotten Your words.
‏119:141 צָעִיר אָנֹכִי וְנִבְזֶה פִּקֻּדֶיךָ, לֹא שָׁכָחְתִּי.
I am young and despised; I have not forgotten Your precepts.

" A fool does not realize, and an unwise person does not understand this (i.e. the following:) When the wicked bloom like grass, and the evildoers blossom (i.e. when they seem extremly successful), it is to destroy them forever (i.e. they are rewarded for their few good deeds in this World, and they will have no portion in the World to Come!)

I wonder if Muslim Nazi's would make good candles.
Does it bother you that you have to face the dome and the rock to say the sh'ma?

That was my gut feeling. Maybe the Gentiles can use Muslim Nazis as candles for lighting their Christmas trees and other decorations or would it also unkosher those.
