5,130 In Israel Have HIV
(IsraelNN.com) The Health Ministry reported that 4,999 new cases of HIV and AIDS were discovered in Israel between 1981 and late 2006. 1,059 people died of the disease or left Israel during this period. 5,130 people currently living in Israel have HIV/AIDS.
The Central Bureau of Statistics says the rate of infection in 2006 was 47 cases for every 1 million people, a lower rate than that in most western European countries.
World AIDS Awareness Day will be marked on December 1 and a media campaign on the subject will be launched shortly.
