Neo-Nazi threat at EuroGames
Fri 13/07/07 - The 11th EuroGames are taking place in Antwerp. The biggest athletic event for lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender people in Europe started on Thursday and will finish on Sunday. The neo-Nazi movement Blood & Honour has threatened to disturb the Games.
Sport is not the most important thing at the EuroGames. Everyone taking part wants to enjoy him- or herself in the first place.
The competitors' aim is to enjoy themselves
The aim of the event is in fact to draw attention to the rights of gays and lesbians. It turns out that in top sport, there is still a long way to go.
With the EuroGames taking place in Antwerp, the hospitality industry in the city is doing brisk business. July normally quite calm, but at least this year the EuroGames will compensate for this.
Neo-Nazi threat
Meanwhile, the neo-Nazi movement Blood & Honour has called for protest actions to disturb the Games on its website.
Police are taking the threat seriously. Sven Lommaert of the local police explained that measures have been taken to step up security. "If something happens, we will be prepared."
