Elderly lady wounded by airgun in drive-by shooting

An 81-year-old woman has been wounded in a drive-by shooting on Auckland's North Shore.
Sergeant Grant Hand said police were called to Inverness Rd in Browns Bay after an elderly woman was shot between the shoulder blades with an airgun pellet.
"A Red Mazda Estima liftback or similar model vehicle was sighted in the area at the time of the shooting," Mr Hand said.
He said there were two men in the car and police wanted to identify them.
"The woman was about 200 metres from her home and was walking to the nearby shops when she heard a "popping sound" - this was followed by a "sharp, stinging sensation" between her shoulders," Mr Hand said.
He said the attack is callous and cowardly.
"This totally irresponsible act could have had unimaginable consequences as the elderly victim has just been released from hospital after a heart ailment," Mr Hand said.
The woman has a welt on her back, about the size of a 10 cent piece, but did not need to go to hospital.
