CROWN Princess Mary has swapped fancy gowns for fatigues as a volunteer with the Danish Home Guard.
The rifle-toting royal, who has spent recent weeks shooting down rumours of marriage troubles, is having basic military training.
The Australian-born princess has received lessons in combat and marksmanship, first-aid and rescue skills.
Her mother-in-law, Denmark's Queen Margrethe, had similar military training and was a major in the Women's Flying Squad.
Princess Mary's husband, Crown Prince Frederik, is a former Navy Seal.
Once her basic training is complete, Princess Mary will be posted to the Home Guard in Copenhagen, but Mary's children Christian, 2, and Isabella, 9 months, could find themselves subject to stricter discipline in future.
