A MELBOURNE grandmother attacked by an intruder kept silent about her serious injuries for nine days after he threatened to come back and kill her.
Josephine Cesnick, 76, finally called an ambulance when the pain from her injuries became unbearable, but despite undergoing surgery there are fears she may not survive.

Ms Cesnick was watering in the backyard of her Templewood Crescent home in Avondale Heights on January 20 when she was startled by a balaclava-clad man, who demanded cash.

"The victim has said that she didn't have any and the offender has then grabbed the elderly lady around her neck and then made a threat to her not to contact police otherwise he would kill her,'' Detective Acting Sergeant Simon Karp said.

"He then pushed her over which has caused her to fall over and hit her head on the base of a tree.''

Ms Cesnick, who lives alone, suffered severe head injuries and bruising to her neck and leg.

But while the injuries caused severe headaches, she was so scared that she suffered in silence for nine days until the pain became unbearable and she called an ambulance.

Ms Cesnick was admitted on Tuesday to the Royal Melbourne Hospital, where she remains in a critical condition after undergoing surgery.

Police have indicated she may not survive.

"We've notified the homicide squad, they are monitoring her situation at this stage and may take over the investigation,'' Act Det Sgt Karp said.

He described the assault as a cowardly and random attack and said police were examining car thefts and burglaries in the area to try to identify the attacker.

"It's particularly worrying that someone would target a 76-year-old lady in her home, she lives by herself, obviously is very frail and not able to defend herself.

"I've described it as a cowardly attack because there's no reason why you would need to lay hands on a 76-year-old woman.''

The woman's son flew from Sydney last night to be at his mother's bedside.

He was too upset to speak to the media today.

The offender is described as about 183cm tall and was wearing dark clothing and a grey balaclava.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

AN elderly woman who was too terrified to seek help for nine days after being attacked in her yard has died, but police fear the lengthy delay could mean her assailant may never be caught.

Grandmother Josephine Cesnik, 76, died early today two weeks after a would-be robber confronted her in the yard of her Avondale home in northwestern Melbourne on January 20.

He grabbed her around the neck and pushed her over, hitting her head on the base of a tree, when she said she had no money.

Before fleeing, the offender warned Mrs Cesnik not to call the police or he would return and kill her.

Mrs Cesnik kept her head injuries a secret for nine days, but eventually called an ambulance nine days after the attack when her headaches became unbearable.

She underwent surgery at the Royal Melbourne Hospital but died about 1am (AEDT) today.

A police caravan was set up outside her home in Templewood Crescent, Avondale Heights, this afternoon as police appealed to any witnesses to come forward.

A forensics team scoured the property unsuccessfully on Friday and police were making up for lost time, Detective Acting Sergeant Simon Karp of the Robbery Taskforce said.

“Unfortunately we're two weeks behind due to a tragic set of circumstances where unfortunately the victim didn't report it to police,” he said.

“It delayed our investigation and, probably worse than that, it delayed her medical treatment which has added to her cause of death.”

He said the offender could face manslaughter charges and has appealed for the man to give himself up.

“If the person has not meant for this to happen or it's been a tragic accident, not his intention to hurt this lady, then it's in his interests to come forward and speak to us.”

Mrs Cesnik's son, who flew from Sydney to be by his mother's bedside, was distraught.

“Her son is absolutely devastated, he can't come to terms with why this has happened,” Det Act Sgt Karp said.

An autopsy was expected to be performed on Mrs Cesnik's body tonight.

The offender was described as about 183cm tall and was wearing dark clothing and a grey balaclava.

We really need death penalty for this guy.
Turkey must get out of NATO. NATO must get out of Kosovo-Serbia. Croats must get out of Crajina. All muslims must get out of Christian and Jewish land. Turks must get out of Cyprus. Turks must get out of "Istanbul". "Palestinians" must get out of Israel. Israel must become independent from USA.

This is the natural result of our decaying western culture. It is decaying because it is afflicted with the disease of liberalism. The vaccine for liberalism is bullets and a quicklime ditch.
