Earlier I posted this question to Yahoo Questions and Answers:

What are some of Barack Obama's legislative accomplishments?

Chris Mathews was interviewing Senator Kirk Watson and asking him what some of Barack Obama's legislative accomplishments are. Senator Watson was unable to answer this question. So what are some of Barack Obama's legislative accomplishments. Here too, I'm not looking for answers such as how much he inspires people or what he plans on doing. But has HAS he accomplished legislatively already?

This is one answer I received which I thought was quite substantive:

Obama passed legislation with Republican Senator Jim Talent to give gas stations a tax credit for installing E85 ethanol refueling pumps. The tax credit covers 30 percent of the costs of switching one or more traditional petroleum pumps to E85, which is an 85 percent ethanol/15 percent gasoline blend.

-After a number of inmates on death row were found innocent, Senator Obama worked with law enforcement officials to require the videotaping of interrogations and confessions in all capital cases.

-His first law was passed with Republican Tom Coburn, a measure to rebuild trust in government by allowing every American to go online and see how and where every dime of their tax dollars is spent.

-Obama created the Illinois Earned Income Tax Credit for low-income working families in 2000 and successfully sponsored a measure to make the credit permanent in 2003. The law offered about $105 million in tax relief over three years.

And...

-Obama joined forces with former U.S. Sen. Paul Simon (D-IL) to pass the toughest campaign finance law in Illinois history. The legislation banned the personal use of campaign money by Illinois legislators and banned gifts from lobbyists. Before the law was passed, one organization ranked Illinois worst among 50 states for its campaign finance regulations.

-As a member of the Veterans' Affairs Committee, Senator Obama has fought to help Illinois veterans get the disability pay they were promised, while working to prepare the VA for the return of the thousands of veterans who will need care after Iraq and Afghanistan.

-He traveled to Russia with Republican Dick Lugar to begin a new generation of non-proliferation efforts designed to find and secure deadly weapons around the world.

-Obama has been a leading advocate for protecting the right to vote, helping to reauthorize the Voting Rights Act and leading the opposition against discriminatory barriers to voting...

And...

- In the U.S. Senate, Obama introduced the STOP FRAUD Act to increase penalties for mortgage fraud and provide more protections for low-income homebuyers, well before the current subprime crisis began.

-Obama sponsored legislation to combat predatory payday loans, and he also was credited with lobbied the state to more closely regulate some of the most egregious predatory lending practices.

-Barack Obama introduced the Patriot Employer Act of 2007 to provide a tax credit to companies that maintain or increase the number of full-time workers in America relative to those outside the US; maintain their corporate headquarters in America; pay decent wages; prepare workers for retirement; provide health insurance; and support employees who serve in the military.

And...

-Obama worked to pass a number of laws in Illinois and Washington to improve the health of women. His accomplishments include creating a task force on cervical cancer, providing greater access to breast and cervical cancer screenings, and helping improve prenatal and premature birth services.

-Obama has introduced and helped pass bipartisan legislation to limit the abuse of no-bid federal contracts.

-Obama and Senator Feingold (D-WI) took on both parties and proposed ethics legislation that was described as the "gold standard" for reform. It was because of their leadership that ending subsidized corporate jet travel, mandating disclosure of lobbyists' bundling of contributions, and enacting strong new restrictions of lobbyist-sponsored trips became part of the final ethics bill that was signed into law.

This guy should have been speaking to Chris Mathews instead of that schlump Senator Kirk Watson. Do any of you notice any fallacies or inaccurate statements made in his answers? I'm curious to know.

Yes, I'm sure Obama and his campaign are going to scold him endlessly and may very well fire him.

Hannity had Frank Luntz ask a focus group last week what they considered to qualify Obama for president:

      Responses included:

           "He gives good speeches"

           "He's Black"

"He gave a speech at the 2004 convention"

"He was against the Iraq War"

People trying to put the correct spin on Obamas accomplishments in the past have to be careful as to what they say. It seems more clear each day that this guy will be the Democrat challenger  in November. Soon he will have to form some sort of appeal to more moderate sectors of the population. To much said now may paint him in a very liberal light and cause moderate Democrats and Republicans to look towards McCain. Its well known Obama's voting record has painted him as one of  the most liberal people in congress. I believe anyone Obama sends out to speak on his behalf is told to keep the facts down to a minimum.

Obama has been getting support from "moderates."  But a lot of them know very little about his record as well as his views.  They just know that he's "new" on the national political scene and they're delusional enough to support him as of now.

Obama supported partial birth-abortion, for example.  How anyone thinks that's not very partisan, I'm not sure.

Proves what i always thought.. Obama is like a motivational speaker, good at getting his point across but isn't really saying or doing anything to begin with.  He's like a blank canvas for people to put their hopes onto.

Most people are not well informed about the political landscape. Most Americans only know what the TV or popular news media tells them. Whenever I have a few people sitting around I try to toss out a political bomb and see what sort of response I get. Over the years I have found that the vast majority of people have no idea whats happening around them or think some benevolent group of politicians is looking out for their best interests. In Obama's case people often tell me that he will be controlled by the house and senate and therefore will not be able to  do much thats harmful. When I say that all three branches of power may be in the hands of the same party they are sort of stumped but still don't get very disturbed. I think we have come to a point in history where issues are back burner. People running for office need to look a certain way say things that are pleasurable. If a candidate is to old to issue based gives the electorate to much stress they can't deal with its no fun. Most people today feel it's someone else's job to deal with the details of running the country. Now Obama is here promising hope and change and all his supporters and the disgruntled think that the smart black guy they see in every TV show and commercial has finally come along to save the day and give them what they feel they need. Little do they know that the hope and change that he has in mind may be nothing close to what they envision.

Even with all these legislative accomplishments that still doesn't qualify him to be President. The two Democratic frontrunner's both lack experience. Why do you think Bush is barely squeaking by his own presidency? Because he was a one term Governor. Jimmy Carter only had five years experience as Governor of Georgia, look how his presidency went. A lot of Obama's Legislative accomplishments were when he was state senator, local council positions and that doesn't count. You don't really start gaining political experience until you get to Washington, D.C. and run with the big dogs.

Yes a very good point! That's how we ended up with Jimmy Carter back in the 70's.
