Type "Barack Obama Muslim" on Google or Yahoo and the first page comes up with articles, only talking about Obama not being a Muslim. Articles like, "CNN debunks false report about Obama" and articles from "urbanlegends.about.com" are all that come up. Thousands of people will see these sentences (all saying he is not Muslim) and move on to a new search, believing this mis-information. You have to type in some really long sentences to find any meaty stuff on Obama. CNN seems to really be at the front of this misinformation movement.

One part of a Wikipedia linked article says, "Arabic muslimun is the stem IV participle[1] of the triliteral S-L-M "to be whole, intact". A literal translation would be "one who wants or seeks wholeness", where "wholeness" translates islāmun. In a religious sense, Al-Islām translates to "faith, piety", and Muslim to "one who has (religious) faith or piety".
