Getting a shotgun - suggestions?

I'm looking at getting a pump shotgun. Either a Mossberg 590 or a Remington 870. I'm not sure what I should be looking into, should I get a full stock? Folding stock? Telescoping stock? Pistol grip with no stock? I prefer synthetic furniture myself and I'd like to have the little tabs on the stock or receiver to hold extra shotgun shells.

Mossberg 590 - receivers aluminum, lightweight, i've shot a mossberg 500 and liked it. Apparently it was one of the only shotguns to pass marine trials

Remington 870, apparently steel receiver. I've never shot one but i've been recommended by a number of people to get one. Bad picture, I am not going to get a short barrel rifle because then you need a ATF tax stamp.

I've shot 3 shotguns in my lifetime, one my dad had me shoot, no idea what the model was, I've shot a Winchester defender with wood furniture with full stock, and i've shot a mossberg 500 tactical series with the telescoping stock which was really comfortable.

Any recommendations? What are the advantages?

Im not an absolute expert on this, but I would suggest getting a stock for a 12 gauge.  The kick is significant.

Mossberg.  I have a 20 gauge 500 Cruiser and I love it.

How's the kick with the pistol grip?

Not bad but I use 20 gauge birdshot shells.  It is strictly for home defense.
