Pope Loves 'Jewish Pizza'
(IsraelNN.com) Catholic Pope Benedict XVI is a new customer at a renowned kosher bakery in Rome's historic Jewish quarter, according to a report by Ynetnews. The Boccione bakery, which was established in 1555, stands alongside a prominent local synagogue and Jewish schools.
Bakery owner Wilma Limentani says the pope was introduced to her handmade baked goods by one of his doctors, who stopped by the bakery on the way to a routine checkup on the pontiff, and picked up some treats, including an almond and raisin confection with cinnamon and pine nuts which she has dubbed "Jewish pizza." Limenati, who says her bakery is strictly kosher, recently received a thank you note from the Vatican.
Ever since the papal endorsement, curious customers have lined up at Boccione to try “Jewish pizza.”
