I believe you are correct.  Also in the 1970's the Canadian dollar was higher than the American Dollar...

The reason that the former great South Africa's currency was so strong is because it was backed by gold. The Rand now is not nearly anything like it was before. When that creature mandala took over south africa went into a nose dive. For all practical purposes it is a place were only black bipeds can tolerate.

Exactly similar when Mugabe took over Rhodesia or whatever that country was called also similar to the overthrow of the Belguin Congo.  It seems that every time a republic comes to the forefront of any society the Marxist UN/NATO or whoever finance and overthrow them and insert some communist and turn a relatively productive country into a "Foreign Aid" recipient.  I too find it funny how Mugabe received $300+million per year in "foreign aid", while his people were starving or eating eachother he was building Hotels on the French Cote Dezur (spelling)....  one big sham....
