Arab Village Favored over Negev for Dairy

(IsraelNN.com) Government policy has encouraged Tara Dairies to build a new milk production facility in the Arab town of Kfar Kassem instead of near the Negev town of Netivot, located about five miles from Sderot. The move comes despite announcements by Vice Prime Minister Shimon Peres that priority will be given to the Negev and the Galilee.

The switch comes after new government guidelines, which grant companies incentives to locate in Arab communities in central Israel. Tara applied for a $100 million grant for building the new dairy, and the company will invest $70 million in the project.
