Letter to Soldiers: Don't Let The Left Scare You!
by Hillel Fendel
(IsraelNN.com) Knesset Member Aryeh Eldad (National Union party) and the Standing Together organization have initiated a campaign to offset the influence of the left-wing MachsomWatch women. Machsom means checkpoint, and the women's group frequents IDF checkpoints to discourage soldiers from doing lengthy security checks on Arabs.
The Standing Together campaign includes the distribution of flyers to encourage the soldiers at the checkpoints. Eldad also provides an address to which the soldiers can turn when they feel that the pro-Arab "Watch" women are harassing them.
Taking a cue from the MachsomWatch women themselves, the nationalist camp activists will also photograph the left-wing observers, in an attempt to document harassment that prevents the soldiers from carrying out their duties.A sample MachsomWatch incident occurred in September 2006. A soldier was removed from an IDF checkpoint near Tul Karem, east of Netanya, after his parents complained that his commander had caved in to MachsomWatch women and behaved irresponsibly. The women had persuaded the checkpoint commander not to closely inspect a suspiciously-dressed Arab man - who stood out by wearing a suit on a hot day. The soldiers had instructed him to lift his shirt, in accordance with procedure, to prove he was not wearing an explosives vest.
MachsomWatch women, however, speaking by phone to the commander, convinced him to order his soldiers not to do so. The women said, "He is a respectable man; you can see that he's OK." The parents of one of the soldiers filed a complaint with the IDF, saying that the commander, by giving in to the women, issued an "illegal order that endangered soldiers and citizens."A more serious incident occurred when a soldier was killed by a suicide bomber at a checkpoint after he did not closely inspect him. The soldier's father later related that his son, just two days before, had complained that left-wing women had harassed him and other soldiers when they inspected a suspicious Arab. The father said that his son had been "cowed" by the women's criticism.Knesset Member at IDF Checkpoint

Eldad Talks to Soldiers
MK Eldad joined a counter-group - Women in Blue and White - at the Hawara Junction near Shechem and Yitzhar this week. He said later that in discussions with the soldiers, he heard many stories of harassment by MachsomWatch women.
"The soldiers said that the women come nearly every day," Eldad related, "and as soon as they do, the Arabs start making provocations against the soldiers, who then hesitate to respond they way they should."The flyers distributed to the soldiers read, in part: "Machsom Watch, which claims to watch over Arab rights... is actually trying to aid Israel's enemies, the terrorist organizations, and to deter you from properly carrying out your missions. They threaten you that whatever you do is documented on film and tape and that they will take you to court after they incite the Arabs to file complaints. They feel that the fear of being taken to court or of negative media exposure will cause you to allow any Arab who wants to to pass through the checkpoint - even if he is security threat.
"
Remember: you are the line of defense of Israel. Terrorists who pass through your watch will be able to make their way undisturbed to the heart of Israel and kill women and children... You are not alone! Don't let an extremist left-wing organization, supported by Israel's enemies, scare you! To complain about harrassment or illegal activity by Machsom Watch, call 0505 580 822."http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/127237
