Support of Obama Rising Among U.S. Jews

(IsraelNN.com) Jewish voters in the U.S. have increased their support for Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) for president since he won the Democratic nomination in June. They now favor Obama over Senator John McCain (R-AZ) by more than 3 to 1, 74 percent to 22 percent.

The pattern of support for Obama among Jews is different from that in the general population. Support for the Democratic candidate was fairly stable from June through September, but rose sharply in October, in an apparent reaction to the U.S. economic crisis. By contrast, support for Obama among Jewish voters expanded more gradually, from just over 60 percent in June and July to 66 percent in August, 69 percent in September.

Support identical to 2004
According to Gallup, the current level of support among U.S. Jews for Obama is identical to the support John Kerry and John Edwards received from the Jews in the 2004 presidential election. It is only six percentage points lower than what Al Gore and Joe Lieberman received in 2000, which was the first time that a Jew appeared on the presidential ticket of a major party.

Recent support for Obama is a slightly higher among elderly Jews than among Jews younger than 55. The poll found that while about three quarters of Jews aged 55 and older support Obama for president, Jews under 55 supported him by just a 2:1 margin. Gallup did not explain how the overall proportion of Jewish supporters for Obama could be identical to the level of support he receives from Jews over 55, despite the fact that the younger age groups favor him less.

Yes, the religious Jews are mostly Republican. And as I came back I found my Republican sensibilities returning also. I was Republican when I started my voting career, switched over, and now I have come back...

I never quite understood how a religious Jew can be on the left. It goes against every principal in the Torah and it makes no sense.

And as per the non-religious Jews, shame on them for desecrating the Torah that their forefathers lived and died to bring to them. They are on the left simply because they want a certain end result no matter if it's truly right or wrong. That may be because they want acceptance from the nations, to be "cool", or because their families were raise in communist block countries, or because they wish to excuse themselves of the responsibilities outlined in the Torah. Because of this bias, they overlook logic and humility and fail to research why they believe what they do.

The liberal mentality is one of pseudo intellectualism (with a lot of fluffy catch phrases) and fails to counter for the faults in human nature. It's an idealistic view that assumes that everyone else is just like them and that there is no difference in different groups of people. In reality, there are groups of very evil people that wish for their deaths.

It feels SO GOOD to be here amongst Yidden who "get it"! 

I registered Republican when I turned 18 in 1977; partly because of something Rabbi Meir Kahane, HY"D had once said to me. He said that in 30 years, the Republicans would turn out to be the best friends Israel ever had...and Yidden back then thought he was insane! But he was a true prophet.

I have also always been very pro-life on abortion, as well as anti-feminist and anti-sodomy, along with other issues, esp. very anti-communist.

The Yidden who came to this country in the 1900s (my zayde's generation) tended to be nominally "Orthodox" (only because there was nothing else in Eastern Europe other than frum or apikores), and they also tended to vote Democrat because of their involvement in labor unions, etc.

But Yidden now are waking up, those who are frum...and they are mostly Republican. My parents were Roosevelt Dems and I remember how my father (obm) reacted when I registered Republican...it was as if (chas ve'sholom) I'd converted to Christianity! 

But it feels SO GOOD to be here among Yidden and righteous Gentiles who share my views on these things!

 Its not becuase they are Jews- or from Jewish influence, its the influence of the surrounding culture and inviorment. Those who dont vote for democrats- are more connected to the Torah, this they are more aware of what is right and wrong, and are better at seeing what is right and what is wrong. Those Jews who unfortunatly are not connected to the Torah and thus are assimilated pick up the culture that they reside in, thus if they would live in the south amoung hard-core republicans they probably would be like them, and if they live amoung liberals (which is to a large extent) they become much like them, and imitate them.) Its all ignorance unfortunatly (Also a mental thing, because every sin you should know that no tonly they but all of us do (G-d forbid) causes and is caused from a sense of mental disorder if thats the right word. The more sins the more mental imbalance, etc.

Most of the assimilated secular ones do because without religion there is a void in their life, so many of them (incorrectly) equate the democratic party with "social justice."   It shows that there is a void in their soul but they are still desiring to be good people.   They are just totally ignorant of what that even means.   And totally ignorant about what it is to be a Jew and what party is better for Jewish people.

Oh come on, that's incredibly stupid.

Normally you just take a long time to understand things and things need to be explained to you, but you're not illogical.

Normally you don't read things into things. And that's good.  That's safer than reading things in and getting everything topsy turvy like dozens of others here.

Briann is a long standing member and a great guy. AND, he's a genius.

He is a mile away from being an anti-semite.  And it doesn't take much thought to see he means jews turning from democrat to republican as muman did.

He has alot of intellectual talent and I wouldn't even bother him by asking him to explain every little thing like that anyway. You should have given him the benefit of the doubt anyway.

I have alot of respect for the fact that you're one of only a handful of logical people here. And true to form you did ask before jumping in with that interpretation. But you still jumped in, and you are way off anyway.
