Because they are made in Germany, and German weapons fetch a premium despite the fact that there's nothing really special about them and they are rather complicated in design and hard to find parts for.

Prices also went up after the weapons were banned so a lot are preban variants (supply and demand), it's possible that the one pictured is a clone, particularly the PTR91 model which retails for around 1000 dollars or so.

Guys I just read the story again, I think this is fake, I think this is a way for Obama to ban "assault weapons" so he can say "see, crazy Nazis want to kill me and black people, lets ban assault weapons", while Neo Nazis aren't exactly the most upstanding people, most of them (besides your average thugs) are quite aware of the laws and will do anything to keep under the radar so to speak. It wouldn't surprise me if the whole thing was a setup by the ATF as a false flag operation because a white neo nazi with a gun paints a wonderful image in the eyes of Obama supporters out there to give Obama all the power he needs to ban guns.
