Court: Leftists Video Does Not Support Claims


(IsraelNN.com) A video purporting to show a violent attack on Arabs and Israeli leftists near the city of Hevron does not in fact prove that the group was attacked, a judge has ruled. The video shows Jewish residents of the Hevron area fighting with the group, but it is unclear who started the violence, he said.

The judge pointed out that the video was heavily edited, and showed the Jewish residents of Hevron approaching but did not show the beginning of the fight. Jews say they approached because the group was in the area illegally and posed a security risk.

The video supports the Hevron Jews' claim that police discriminated against them by accepting the Arabs' version of events when, in fact, there was no proof that the Arabs were the victims, the judge said. Hevron community spokeswoman Orit Struck released the court transcript after the video was widely covered in the media, with reporters giving credence to the Arab claims that they were the victims of an unprovoked attack.
