 :o :o :o :o :o             Barak and Gov’t Battered for Allowing Rockets

by Hillel Fendel

(IsraelNN.com) As dozens of rockets and shells slam down on Israeli towns in the Negev, Defense Minister Ehud Barak is under fire for taking no action to stop the terrorists.

Likud Chairman Binyamin Netanyahu said, in reaction to the rocket barrage, “I know of no country that would be hit by this many missiles and do nothing… We must change over from ‘getting hit’ to ‘hitting back,’ in order to renew our deterrence capability and our national honor.”

MK Aryeh Eldad, of the fledgling HaTikvah party, said, “This government must be hospitalized urgently, because of the utter silence that has overtaken it in the face of these attacks.  Hundreds of thousands of Israelis in the south are being attacked, and the government does nothing. Replacing this government has become an existential need.”

MK Avigdor Lieberman, head of the Yisrael Beiteinu (Israel Our Home) party, said, “For the first time, I find myself in agreement with [the far-left] Meretz [party]: Barak is not normal, and this is a problem for all of us.  The government of Israel has failed. No other country would allow such a situation to continue.”

Party Convenes in Missionary Village
Lieberman spoke on Wednesday at a press conference he convened in Yad HaShmonah at which he presented his party’s would-be Knesset Members. Yad HaShmonah - a "missionary village," according to the Yad L'Achim anti-missionary organization - is a moshav west of Jerusalem, whose members are Messianic Jews and Christians.

Party spokesperson Irena Ettinger, asked by IsraelNationalNews why Yad HaShmonah was chosen for the press conference, said no ulterior motives were involved. “It is a convenient location between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, with a nice-sized hall, and that’s it,” she said.  A spokesman for MK Stas Mesezhnikov - placed in the #3 position, behind only Lieberman and veteran MK Uzi Landau - was asked the same question. He said he had not known of the town’s missionary orientation, and that he would look into the matter and bring it up with party leaders regarding future party gatherings.

Egypt in Favor of Attack
The Arabic-language paper Al-Quds reported on Wednesday that Egyptian General Omer Suleiman says Cairo is not opposed to Israeli military action in Gaza.  Suleiman reportedly told this to Israeli Defense Ministry official Amos Gilad on his recent trip to Egypt. The report goes further and states that Egypt supports the fall of the Hamas government.

Meretz: Talk With Hamas
On the other hand, Meretz party leader MK Chaim Oron warns against a broad military offensive in Gaza. He says there is no choice but to talk with Hamas – an organization that calls openly for Israel’s destruction.  Admitting that specific Israeli attacks against terrorists are acceptable, and that temporary ceasefires will not bring long-term peace, Oron told Ynet that they are better than re-capturing Gaza.
