Indian Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee has said that no ultimatum has been given to Pakistan's government to act against Mumbai attackers. “No ultimatum was set. There is no question of any ultimatum. Nobody has set any ultimatum,” Mukherjee said on Sunday.
He added that India would share whatever information Pakistan required once investigations were over.
He noted that Pakistan had made commitments that it would not allow the use of its soil for terrorist activities, but has not acted to those commitments.
“Not once, but twice Pakistan had made a commitment. Once by Pervez Musharraf and now by President Asif Ali Zardari. Where is the commitment? Where is the action against terrorists?” Mukherjee asked.
The Indian foreign minister once again called for the demolition of 'terrorist camps' allegedly operating on Pakistani soil.
He urged Pakistan to admit that the terrorists involved in the Mumbai attacks came from Pakistan.
“We have evidence and gave the names, not once but ten times. Pakistan had earlier accepted that the perpetrators of the Mumbai attack emanated from there. But now they are contradicting it,” Mukherjee said.
The remarks come a month after India blamed the Pakistan-based militant group, Lashkar-e-Taiba for orchestrating the November 26 attacks on Mumbai, which left around 180 people dead. Pakistan has said it has moved against both Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jamaat-ud-Dawam, a front group for Lashkar.
But India says Pakistani actions are insufficient and has called on Islamabad to hand over the militants that were allegedly involved in the raids. Islamabad, however, says Indian intelligence agencies have failed to offer concrete proof justifying claims that militants who attacked Mumbai were Pakistani nationals.
There have been reports of possible forthcoming 'surgical' strikes by India on the headquarters and camps of LeT in Pakistan. Pakistani troops are also strengthening some positions on the Line of Control in divided Kashmir and the towns of Kasur and Sialkot.
