Speak for yourself. People know where I am from as soon as I open my mouth. Besides its everyone else that has an accent not the people from New York.

As my vocabulary progressed, I grew out of the accent. I still have it a bit.

Doesn't seem like I'm ever going to grow out of my 'delightful' New York accent.  >:(

Where I'm from (Texas) people say "wallago" when they mean "a while ago". Example: "I did that wallago."

As an ex-New Yawker, I can tell you it's vitually impossible to eliminate all traces of that unique accent.

It's been over 25 years since I left Brooklyn, and to this day I still have people ask me 'what part of New York are you from?'.

You can reduce the accent, but eliminate it completely ?

I'm proud of my regional accent. I remember in all of the public speaking courses I took the instructors would always place an emphasis on speaking in a Midwestern accent. As a result of this I'm capable of "neutralizing" my accent to a degree. Actually, Chaim is really good at neutralizing his New York accent.
