OBAMA YOUTH BRIGADE LEGISLATION FORBIDS CHURCH ATTENDANCE
HR 1388 Has Passed House, Compared to "Hitler Youth"
By Bob Dill
Republicans and Democrats voted to pass HR 1388 by a vote of 321-105. It is now headed for the Senate for a vote and then to the President for a signature.
The bill is called Generation Invigorating Volunteerism and Education (GIVE). It forms what some call the Obama Youth Brigade.
The President plans to require
• anyone receiving school loans and others
• serve at least three months as part of the brigade.
• The bill has a goal of recruiting one million youth.
Those individuals who are familiar with the Hitler Youth programs in Nazi Germany are making comparisons.
The bill forbids any student participating in the Obama Youth Brigade to
• participate in
• engaging in religious instruction
• conducting worship services
• providing instruction as part of a program that includes mandatory religious instruction or worship
• constructing or operating facilities devoted to religious instruction or worship,
• maintaining facilities primarily or inherently devoted to religious instruction or worship,
• or engaging in any form of religious proselytization. That means no church attendance or witnessing.
The bill was sponsored by Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) with 37 others.
