Obama administration blocks sale of 6 AH-64D helicopters to Israel - approves 12 to Egypt

[Dr. Aaron Lerner - IMRA: Here is a threat:

President Obama holds up supply of helicopters to Israel out of concern for
Palestinian civilians.

But when it comes to 12 of the same helicopters for Egypt its the standard
boiler plate "The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter
the basic
military balance in the region."]

#1 Administration blocks helicopters for Israel due to civilian casualties
in Gaza
Wednesday, May 27, 2009
www.worldtribune.com/worldtribune/WTARC/2009/ss_israel0424_05_27.asp

WASHINGTON - The Obama administration has blocked Israel's request for
advanced U.S.-origin attack helicopters.

Government sources said the administration has held up Israel's request for
the AH-64D Apache Longbow attack helicopter. The sources said the request
was undergoing an interagency review to determine whether additional Longbow
helicopters would threaten Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip.

"During the recent war, Israel made considerable use of the Longbow, and
there were high civilian casualties in the Gaza Strip," a source close to
the administration said.

The sources said Israel has sought to purchase up to six new AH-64Ds in an
effort to bolster conventional and counter-insurgency capabilities. They
said Israel wants to replenish its fleet after the loss of two Apache
helicopters in the 2006 war with Hizbullah.

The Israel Air Force has also requested U.S. permission to integrate the
Spike extended-range anti-tank missile into the AH-64D. Spike ER, developed
by the state-owned Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, has a range of eight
kilometers and was installed on the Eurocopter Tiger and AgustaWestland A129
helicopters.

The sources said the deployment of Spike would require integration into the
Longbow's millimeter-wave fire control and acquisition system. They said
this would require permission from both Boeing and the U.S. government.

Israel's Defense Ministry and air force have discussed procurement of
additional Longbows with the U.S. firm Boeing. But the sources said the
Longbow as well as other defense requests have been shelved by the
administration amid its review of the potential use of American weapons
platforms by Israel.

During his visit to the United States, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu
also sought to win approval from the Defense Department for the installation
of Israeli-origin electronic warfare systems in the Joint Strike Fighter.

Netanyahu was said to have met Defense Secretary Robert Gates in a review of
Israeli defense programs with the United States. Defense Minister Ehud Barak
was scheduled to meet Gates in Washington in early June

#2 Egypt - AH-64D APACHE Longbow Helicopters
(Source: US Defense Security Cooperation Agency; issued May 26, 2009)
www.defense-aerospace.com/articles-view/release/3/105577/us-approves-%24820m-sale-to-egypt-of-ah_64d-apache-longbow-helicopters.html

WASHINGTON --- On May 22, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified
Congress of a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Egypt of
12 AH-64D Block II APACHE Longbow Helicopters and associated equipment,
parts, training and support for an estimated cost of $820 million.

The Government of Egypt has requested a possible sale of 12 AH-64D Block II
APACHE Longbow Helicopters, 27 T700-GE-701D Engines, 36 Modernized Targeting
Acquisition and Designation Systems/Pilot Night Vision Sensors, 28 M299
Hellfire Longbow Missile Launchers, 14 AN/ALQ-144(V)3 Infrared jammers, and
14 AN/APR-39B(V)2 Radar Signal Detecting Sets.

Also included: composite horizontal stabilizers, Integrated Helmet and
Display Sight Systems, repair and return, transportation, depot maintenance,
spare and repair parts, support equipment, publications and technical
documentation, U.S. Government and contractor technical support, and other
related elements of program support.

The estimated cost is $820 million.

This proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national
security of the United States by helping to improve the security of a
friendly country which has been and continues to be an important force for
political stability and economic progress in the Middle East. This sale is
consistent with these U.S. objectives and with the 1950 Treaty of Mutual
Cooperation and Security.

Egypt will use the AH-64D for its national security and protecting its
borders. The aircraft will provide the Egyptian military more advanced
targeting and engagement capabilities. The proposed sale will provide for
the defense of vital installations and will provide close air support for
the military ground forces. Egypt will have no difficulty absorbing these
helicopters into its armed forces.

The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic
military balance in the region.

The prime contractors will be The Boeing Company in Mesa, Arizona, and St.
Louis, Missouri, General Electric Company of Lynn, Massachusetts, and
Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control in Orlando, Florida. There are no
known offset agreements proposed in connection with this potential sale.

Implementation of this proposed sale requires the assignment of one U.S.
Government representative to Egypt for a period of six years to provide
intensive coordination, monitoring, and technical assistance to assure a
smooth transition of the helicopters in country. Additionally, six
contractor representatives will be in Egypt conducting duties as Contractor
Field Service Representatives for a period of five years and with a possible
five-year extension.

There will be no adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness as a result of
this proposed sale.

This notice of a potential sale is required by law. It does not mean that
the sale has been concluded.

It's OK by Obama for Egypt to buy helicopters, but not Israel.
Another prime example of Obama showing where his true loyalties lie.

My gut tells me that Obama wants to see what kind of reaction this news gets in the House and Senate.  The fact that the sale to Egypt goes through at the same time that the sale to Israel is held-up cannot be anything other than provocation.  In other words, typical American politics would involve stopping both transactions.  If this news is shrugged off, look for Obama to increase his squeeze on Israel.

Dox,
Thanks for your kind words.
And, I agree with you about this latest move by Obama, it is sickening, but furthermore, it is a good example and/or realization that Obama is not an ally of Israel and has no intention of being one.

IF USA wants to play tough, let Israel get tough too.  IF USA will sell weapons to Israel's enemies, Israel should take over oil supplies of its enemy countries that supply USA oil.  If Israel gains control of arab oil by force, then the world will have a much great problem on its hand than imagine.  And, if any country wants to attack Israel, the wrath of G-d and many nukes will wipe out all the cities in their country.  Seeing the disaster the monkey man prresident has started and the lack of approval he will get by strating a nuclear war, he will probably back off and resume a proper relationship with Israel.

I think Israel should also form a bond and purchase weapons from China and help bolster China's economy.  If USA sees Israel has other sources for certain weapons, it may feel more threaten.  China is neutral when it comes to the mid-east crisis.  China only cares about profits , not about human lives or land, except their own.  I think if Israel worked with China to develop weapons, it would infuriate some in USA and make them less prone to bullying Israel.

I am sad to see USA has become an enemy of Israel.  Half the country is full of communists, muslims , minorities who are not the same people that lived in this country for 100s of years.  These are imposters who infiltrated the country.  I hope Americans can start another revolution to oust the brutal dictatorship that is destroying our heritage and world.

Also, I think all the media should be hanged or discharged for spreading nazi-like propaganda and brainwashing the population.

Israel does not need these Apache helicopters.  They are developing unmanned helicopter with India.

India, Israel May Co-Develop Unmanned Helicopter
Dated 11/8/2007

Israel and India are considering the possibility of working together to develop an unmanned fighter helicopter, Israel Radio broadcasts reported.

Former Navy Commander David Ben Ba'ashat visited New Delhi this week and discussed the initiative with his Indian counterparts.

Israel Radio added that military cooperation between Israel and India has grown recently with Jerusalem negotiating with New Delhi over the development of an air defense system requiring the investment of over USD 1.5 billion.

As much as I respect Hindu Zionists, I woudl think you should be wary of India.  They have over 150,000,000 muslism and many people in their government are rabid Jew haters.  I wouldn't be surprised if the killing of the Jews in Mumbai was an inside job with the assistance of anti-Israel Indians.  There are many Indians who support Israel and are Zionists themselves and I have a few as friends.  Nonetheless, you cannot close your eyes on that part of Pakistan resides in India.   I think China is an option, because its neutral and has no love for the USA, Islam, Europe, but only itselves.  If Israel can work with Chinese and would help promote the interests of the two, it would also kick dirt on the face of the Americans.  If USA sees Israel stocking up and allying with other countries, it may rethink its mindset of bullying Israel to make concessions.  Russia, Israel's long time enemy may also be another outlet.  Russia, for the longest time has been supplying muslim countries with weapons, but if Israel was able to get into some type of arrangement with them, they may have some influence on curbing the supply of russian arms to these countries.

I don't see Russia, CHina as anymore of a threat to Israel as I do the USA.  I am sad to say USA and Middle eastern countries are biggest threat to Israel.  USA has a muslim president who is making it his business to punish the Jews for what they are supposedly doing to Palestinians.  This madman negro must be stopped in his tracks before he causes mass world destruciton.  His facade has been lifted and we can see the true black muslim nazi the man really is behind his smiley monkey face.

Israel should stop depending on USA.   If a little sh*thole like North Korea can cause so much fear with some rocket testing, just imagine what Israel can do.  Israel can wipe out all of Europe.  I think the world should have some respect.  I don't see President Apeman crying about the injustices China, Arabs or Russians have done.  This jerkoff doesn't go around telling drug cartels in Mexico and Colombia and the military and federal agents on their payrell to stop partaking in the drug trade.  No, he will invest all his efforts in punishing the Jews for being smart enough to kick a bunch of sand N*ggers out of their homeland and build a great nation.  THis is something that president apeman and his forefathers never could do.
