Has anybody here been baptized or been to a baptism? Is it just the Christian version of going to a mikveh?

I always believed it was derived from the concept of mikvah...

But I believe that a baby is baptised once and they are 'purified' for life...

It is not quite the same as the Brit, which is a cerimony which marks the Jew for his entire life, and he is reminded each day of the faith of his birth.

It is only done once, normally, and different denominations have different ways of doing it. I don't think the Christian Bible gives an explicit formula of how it must be done.

But I believe that a baby is baptised once and they are 'purified' for life...

Some denominations believe in infant baptism. Others don't. The New Testament itself never shows infant baptism and I personally don't think it serves any purpose. Baptism was originally meant as a sign that someone had converted. A baby can't choose its religion.

In the New Testament, the first example was John the Baptist, who was in the Jordan river baptizing people....so I think they were totally immersing themselves in the water....

Haven't watched the Simpsons in years, lol, although I remember that episode. The reason I said "victim" was based on a story line from one of my favorite shows.

Still you must have realized some would find it offensive here.  I would never think it was ok to make fun of or question the Jewish beliefs in a mocking way.  I would ask a question in a polite way if I really wanted to understand.

Confirmation is a sacrament that reaffirms Baptism.  I will never be baptized again, even though I know that some Christians believe I have not been 'saved'.  To each his own beliefs.  I choose to practice my religion every day.  I don't practice it soley because I was baptized.
This 'victim' was introduced to G-d by having a little water sprinkled on her head at a baptismal font.
