Rare Hail Storm Hits Eilat

(IsraelNN.com) Residents and tourists in Eilat were told to expect rain Friday morning - but they never dreamed they would see hail.

But hail it did, accompanied by copious amounts of rain, lighting and thunder. Longtime residents told reporters that they did not remember seeing so much rain even on the coldest winter days. Forecasters said that the rare phenomenon was caused by a cloudburst. The rain, which began in the hotel district, spread eventually to the entire city, flooding many streets and more or less closing the city down for an hour or so.
