First let me say that as someone who has been one of Sarah Palin's ardent supporters, I agree with those who said that Sarah Palin made a bad decision in endorsing Rand Paul. Regardless of what her reasoning was and/ or who she seeked advice from, she made a huge mistake in judgment. In the coming days or weeks, she needs to be asked on FOX why she made this decision.
One thing that's evident is that Sarah Palin is going across the Republican Party spectrum with her endorsements and contributions from SarahPAC. She's supporting John McCain, Lindsey Graham, and Rick Perry, all considered RINO's by many Republicans. However, she's also supported Conservative Candidate Doug Hoffman in the House District 23 race this past November. As well as she's supporting Tom Rooney, Tom Coburn, Marsha Blackburn, Rob Portman, John Thune, Richard Burr, Michelle Bachmann, Orrin Hatch, Chuck Grassley, Jim DeMint, Roy Blunt, Bob McDonnell and John Kasich. At the very least, the vast majority of these people are considered Conservative Republicans, not Libertarians or RINO's.
It's very possible that Sarah Palin is trying to unite the different factions of the Republican Party and the Tea Party Movement. In recent weeks, I discovered that not only is the Republican Party heavily divided, the Tea Party Movement has multiple components. In a way, it reminds me of the Israeli political world with MANY different parties, each having different objectives.
There's one other aspect of the situation that has jumped out. Trey Grayson is not running a good campaign. It feels somewhat like he's the Republican version of Martha Coakley, in that he's turning victory into defeat.
If you have time, do a web search on Trey Grayson in terms of looking for sites that truly passionately support him. Unless I inadvertently overlooked them, I found VERY few. And that's stretching it! On the other hand, the passion for Rand Paul is evident on the Internet, much like it is for his evil father. The truth of the matter is while Bill Johnson is being overlooked by many, if not most in this race for the Republican Senate Nomination for Kentucky, Bill Johnson has more passionate support than Trey Grayson. Chaim mentioned in the " Ask JTF" question that he answered in the show before the most recent one that Bill Johnson's poll numbers are only around 2 %. That could well be the reality of the situation. Yet, one independent poll from December said Bill Johnson is at 17 %:
http://genuinegopmom.blogspot.com/2009/12/new-poll-expected-to-show-bill-johnson.htmlTo be candid, I agree with Chaim in that the situation for Bill Johnson isn't promising at all. He has far less money available at this time and he's viewed as a distant 3rd in the race by many. This COULD be why Sarah Palin elected not to endorse Bill Johnson, who is the true Conservative in this race. ( Of course Sarah Palin should have NOT made an endorsement if she felt Bill Johnson couldn't win and that Trey Grayson is too liberal. ) Among other positions, Bill Johnson believes in a one state solution, with Israel's biblical boundaries as its land.
Unfortunately, Trey Grayson has major baggage, as he was a Bill Clinton Delegate back in 1992. The Rand Paul supporters are making sure this and other baggage on Grayson is well known.
As much as I want to be optimistic about the Senate Race in Kentucky, right now the situation to defeat Rand Paul doesn't look promising. Of course things could change, as Rand Paul has a multitude of baggage. But looking at the situation objectively at present, I think its a major uphill battle to defeat him in the Republican Primary.
